69. Margo

They are going to hate the disruption to their lives. Margo focused her gaze on Turner. And what will your men tell them? I assume they dont even know about immortal goons who can thrall my parents and anyone assigned to protect them.

She just hoped that they werent too late.

The cartel threat is enough of an excuse, Kian said. We can tell your parents that they are going into the witness protection program like you did. They already believe that you witnessed a crime committed by a drug lord, so we will ride that wave.

Casting another glance at Turner, Margo surmised that he hadnt gotten an answer from his assistant yet.

That could work. They will not make too much of a fuss about being moved when their lives are in danger, although knowing Lynda, she will complain anyway.

She would bitch and complain, but whoever Turner sent to guard her would deal with that. Former Special Forces operators would not be intimidated by a thirty-two-year-old valley girl with a superiority complex.

How long will they need to stay in hiding? Margo asked.

It depends on whether anyone actually comes looking for them. Kian turned to Turner. What do you think? Would one week be enough?

Two is better, the guy said. If no one comes for them over the next two weeks, then they probably wont come at all. He shifted his gaze to Margo. My people will install surveillance cameras in both homes to monitor suspicious activity.

What about their workplaces? Negal asked.

There is very little chance the Doomers will try to abduct or harm your family members in front of other people. Im not worried about them being taken from their prospective workplaces.

That made one of them.

Margo was definitely worried about that, but Turner was supposedly an expert, so she should trust his risk assessment. The problem was that Margo didnt trust anyone implicitly. Everyone made errors in judgment and needed to be monitored, even if they were supposed to know more than she did.

Still, if her family was hidden in some remote mountain cabin, it didnt matter if someone came looking for them where they worked. They wouldnt be there anyway.

Can I talk with my parents and brother? she asked. They are probably worried sick about me, and hearing from me might alleviate their fears.

Not now. When Turners people are in position, they can give your family members a secure phone, and then you can call them and explain.

That made sense.

Margo looked at Turner. Any news yet?

He checked his phone. My assistant is typing a message. Hold on.

It took forever, or at least that was how it felt to Margo before Turner lifted his eyes from the screen and smiled.

Good news. They all answered, and your brother and his fiancée were home. My assistant located a contractor who was available to take the case on, and hes deploying two teams to collect your family. Their estimated time of arrival is two hours.

Margos heart fluttered, and not in a good way. Two hours is a long time. They might be taken while your guys are on the way. Call the police. Report a burglary or some suspicious activity. That might keep the goons away until your people arrive.

Turner smiled. This is not the movies, Margo, and things dont happen in an instant. The Doomers dont even know how you are connected to us and if you are connected at all. They will likely decide that you were taken along with Jasmine for the Modanas nefarious reasons, which is true. Then again, the fact that neither you nor Jasmine are with the cartel bosses is suspicious to them, and they might want to investigate it, but it would be a very low priority for them.

Speaking of Jasmine, Negal said. Shouldnt we protect her family as well?

Kian winced. The bigger problem is that we cant just drop her at home as planned. She cant go home. He shifted his gaze to Margo. Neither can you, but thats less of a problem. He cast a quick glance at Negal. Whats your progress with the induction?

Margo felt her cheeks catch fire. How could Kian be so uncouth?

Negal squeezed her hand. We are working on it, and Im confident that Margo will start transitioning before the cruise is over. That means that she will need to stay in your clinic, either the one downtown or in your village. Once shes okay to travel, she will accompany me on the search expedition.

Pulling her hand out of Negals, she glared at him. She is right here, so dont talk about me like I am not. Besides, its not guaranteed that I will transition, and even if I do, Im not sure what I want to do after that. She turned to look at Kian. I really want that Perfect Match beta tester job.

Margo knew that if she transitioned, she would follow Negal, but she was angry at him for discussing their sex life and their future with Kian as if she wasnt there, and in front of Turner.

Negals eyes widened. We talked about all of that. I thought that was what we agreed on.

We talked about it, but we didnt finalize anything. Besides, we cant make decisive plans when the most important step is still pending. It all depends on whether I transition.
