CHAPTER 29

Selma’s head was between Drew’s legs. She seemed hesitant, but Drew decided to keep quiet instead of telling Selma that she didn’t have to do this if she didn’t want to because she trusted that Selma wouldn’t have slid down her body and nibbled on Drew’s inner thighs if she didn’t want to do what she was about to do.

Drew still couldn’t believe she was doing this. She was making love with Selma Driscoll, her girlfriend and the woman she was already falling in love with. When Selma kissed her inner thigh and turned her head to take Drew in, Drew worried at her hesitation, hoping Selma wouldn’t slide back up her body, but also prepared for that to be the case. If Selma didn’t want to do this, whether that be for right now or forever, Drew would be okay with that as long as she had her. But she had nothing to worry about because Selma spread her wide and licked her lips.

“I’ve wanted this for so long.”

Drew wasn’t sure if Selma meant she’d wanted to do this with her, specifically, or if she’d just wanted to go down on any women and hadn’t yet, but that didn’t matter. What did matter was how good Selma’s tongue felt as she dragged it from Drew’s entrance all the way up to the tip of her clit.

“God. That’s how you taste?” Selma asked.

Yet again, Drew didn’t know her meaning. She couldn’t discern it from just Selma’s tone, so she opened her eyes and looked down, watching Selma lick her lips again as if savoring her before she went back in for more. Then, she licked at Drew for several minutes, driving Drew close to an orgasm over and over again, but each time, she’d stop and lick her lips, let her finger play with Drew while she watched, and put her finger inside her mouth, making Drew nearly come just from watching her do that.

“Babe, I can’t…” Drew finally had to admit.

She needed to come. Her clit was rock-hard. She knew if she didn’t come soon, it might just burst on its own, and that would not be nearly as pleasant as how good it would feel with Selma’s mouth wrapped around it.

“Sorry,” Selma said. “I just…” She spread Drew wide again and just stared. “You’re so beautiful. And you taste so good to me. I wanted to savor it.”

“Me too. But if I don’t come soon–”

Selma’s mouth latched on, and she sucked so hard, Drew came in seconds while holding Selma’s head to her, pressing her down hard, telling her with her sounds to take whatever she wanted, to never stop, and that it was so good. Drew wasn’t sure if she had one really long orgasm or two shorter ones, but eventually, she had to tap Selma on the back of her head and beg her to stop because she couldn’t take any more.

“Oh, my God!”

Selma rested her head on Drew’s inner thigh and smiled up at her proudly.

“Yeah?”

“Fuck, Selma. That was…” She covered her eyes with her arm. “God. That’s all I can say.”

“For me too,” Selma replied. “I’ve always wondered if I’d like doing that to a woman. I thought I would. And I’ve pictured it – mostly, with you, actually – but I never knew for sure that I’d enjoy it, enjoy it, you know?”

“And now?” Drew asked, removing her arm to look down at Selma.

“I want to do it again.” She smirked up at her. “And again. And again.”

“I would love that.”

“Yeah?”

Drew ran her hand through Selma’s hair and said, “You are very good in bed. I am like jelly right now, Selma.”

Selma smiled up, as if she’d needed that assurance, and Drew understood why. Drew had been with women before. She had experience that made Selma nervous. But Selma had nothing to be nervous about because Drew had come twice already, and if they didn’t have to wake up early tomorrow to go to work, she’d let Selma do whatever she wanted to her all night long.

“I… I wanted you to feel good.”

“I feel amazing right now,” Drew told her. “And I’d like to feel amazing again and do the same for you, but–”

“We have a competition starting tomorrow?” Selma guessed.

“Come back up here,” Drew requested with a smile, and Selma obliged, sliding back up her body and hovering over Drew. “How about we take a quick shower right now and go to sleep? Tomorrow night, after we get back, we can order room service and do more of this.” She kissed Selma after cupping her cheek. “Then, we can get in the tub I know you want to try.”

“Yes, to all of that.” Selma’s hand clasped Drew’s breast. “I don’t want to stop touching you.”

“You won’t. Take a shower with me. I’ll hold you after that.”

When Selma kissed her, Drew could tell that Selma needed to come again. Her body was buzzing, probably because she’d just made Drew come with her mouth, so when they got to the shower, Drew reached between her legs, finding her wet and swollen. She stroked Selma until she came again and rested back against the wall to catch her breath. Her eyes were glazed over a little, and the smile on her face appeared semi-permanent. Drew kissed her deeply and wished they didn’t have to compete tomorrow because all she wanted was to spend the day in bed with this beautiful woman.

◆◆◆

She wanted to hold Selma’s hand, but they were standing outside the hotel with other boarders, waiting on the van that would take them up the mountain. Right now, they were at work; two professionals who happened to snowboard for a living. So, Drew kept her hands to herself, and when the van appeared, she motioned for Selma to get in first. Once in the back row, Drew looked down when she felt something and saw Selma’s hand on her thigh. Apparently, Selma was having the same problem Drew had. They hadn’t been able to stop touching. In their sleep, if one of them shifted away, the other seemed to wake and find them, and as they’d been getting ready, they found ways to remain connected while they stood at the mirror or sat on the bed, putting on their socks and shoes.

Drew hadn’t been this way with Andy. She had never felt the urge to touch her when she was in work mode. Her headphones would usually be in, or, at least, she’d be quiet and thinking about the course and how she’d play it more than how much she’d wanted to touch her girlfriend. Drew knew that this kind of thinking could be dangerous; she needed to be focused on the race today.

They’d have practice time on the course in the morning, and the first preliminary heats would be in the afternoon. Tomorrow would be the second prelim heats for both the men and the women, and in the afternoon, they’d have the semifinal races before the final the following morning. This was not a Team USA event, so Drew was there representing herself and her own cause of winning the event’s gold medal, which would make her look good to Team USA and give her a good shot of making it on the final roster for the Games, but today was about today. She had to win her preliminary races to move on, and that started with the first round.

When she and Selma got to the mountain, Drew pulled away a bit and Selma understood. This woman always seemed to understand and respect Drew’s rituals, never making it about her but making sure Drew knew that she took no offense to Drew going quiet and focusing.

Selma was up first in a heat of six. As the top-ranked racer, she was at the first gate, and she looked good up there, Drew observed from her spot at the bottom of the course.

“Hey,” Andy said, joining her. “Aren’t you in my heat? Shouldn’t you be heading up?”

“I’m going to watch Selma first and then go up.”

“Yeah?” Andy shifted her gloves from one hand to the other. “How’s that going?”

“It’s great.” Drew smiled shyly.

“Oh. It’s great, huh? Meaning…”

“We’re together, and it’s great, yes.”

“Together? Already?”

“Already? It’s been months.”

“You haven’t been dating for months.”

“No, but we’ve been well on our way there for months, so yes, we’re together. Neither of us wanted to be with anyone else, so it made sense. And it’s only been a couple of weeks officially, but I am very happy.”

“That’s great, Drew. I’m happy for you, then. I’ll see you up there. Maybe we can talk more later or something.”

“Maybe,” she said but doubted it because she planned on spending all her time with Selma this week.

She returned her attention to the course just in time for the race to start. It was easier to watch on the screen until the finish, so she turned and found her girlfriend in first place and well ahead already. She smiled because, of course, she was. Selma was a great boarder. She’d improved so much, even from just three years ago in the Olympics, where their unfortunate run-in had led to them both going out early.

As Drew watched Selma race toward her, though, she knew she could now reframe what had happened back then. Yes, it was unfortunate that she hadn’t walked away with a medal of any color, but that crash, that too-tight turn with a possible wax issue, had led to her meeting Selma officially for the first time. That interaction hadn’t been great, of course, but that crash had led to Drew seeing Selma at the resort and them talking more, and that was how they’d gotten here, where they were right now: together, happy, and trying to figure out how they’ll make it all work. She’d take losing in the Olympics over not having this new thing with Selma any day, and she shook her head, laughing a little at herself because that was not something she would’ve said about any of her previous dates or relationships. She’d put her career over everything else until this moment, when she should be up there with Andy already, getting prepared for her own preliminary heat, instead of watching Selma win this one.

“Nice job there, killer. I think you won by a full hour,” she said when Selma made her way over. Drew pulled her in for a hug. “I want to kiss you, but later.”

“Yeah,” Selma said breathlessly. “You have to go. What are you doing down here? I thought you’d be up there by now.”

“I’m going now,” she replied, pulling out of the hug. “I’ll see you when I get back down here.”

“I’ll be waiting and cheering you on,” Selma replied with a smile.

Drew squinted her eyes because she wanted to kiss Selma so much, but now wasn’t the time, so she headed up the mountain, put on her bib, and did her breathing exercises until it was time to take her spot at the start. Andy was to her left, and there were four other boarders to her right. Drew leaned forward, put her board in the right position, and held on until it was time to take off.

At the start, there were two berms, followed by a slight downhill, then one more berm before she could really pick up speed. She hit them, went downhill, and landed on the top of the third. When she moved down it and prepared to pick up speed on the next downhill, though, she felt something and quickly toppled over.

She rolled over and over and over again down that hill she’d been preparing to use as the true beginning of the course, and then stopped, landing on her back, staring up at the sky. She had no idea what had happened, but she seemed to be okay; nothing hurt. So, she got herself up and, with a quick glance around, she figured out what had occurred. With only two boarders moving on to the next heat, Drew saw three boarders on the ground with her. Someone had caused a massive crash and a pileup by clipping a board or otherwise knocking over two-thirds of the racers. Drew had, unfortunately, been one of them.

She took off from where she was, knowing she had no chance to make up enough time and beat at least one of the riders that had managed to avoid the crash, but Drew was no quitter, and if she wasn’t hurt, she’d finish the race. By the time she made it down, the two who had come in first and second already had their goggles off. Drew made her way over to Selma and removed her own.

“Well, fuck,” Selma said.

“Yeah,” Drew replied. “Did you see it?”

“Erin took out herself, you, Nina, and Marissa. She lost her balance on the board at the top of the berm, and her arm swung out and hit you in the back. Babe, I’m so sorry. Are you okay? Are you hurt at all?” Selma’s arms went to Drew’s and ran up and down them.

“Shit. Sorry, Drew,” Andy said, walking over to them. “I saw it happen. You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. You made it through?”

“Came in second. Barely avoided the whole thing, but yeah.”

“Congrats.”

“Thanks. I’ll give you two a minute now,” Andy said, smiling at both of them before she walked off, board in hand.

“Are you really okay?” Selma checked once she was gone.

“I’m okay physically, yeah, but no, I’m not fine. Fuck… Why didn’t I just choose half-pipe? At least, if I fall there, it’s my own damn fault. Fuck,” she repeated. “I’m done. I just got here, had about fifteen seconds up there, and I’m done.”

“I’m sorry, babe,” Selma said.

Drew met her eyes and saw that Selma really was sorry for her, and she knew that she’d feel the same way if their positions had been reversed. She also knew that tonight, she would be back in their room with her girlfriend, and she would be holding Selma, touching her, being touched by her, and she couldn’t help but smile.

“Why are you smiling right now?”

“Because you’re here.”

“Where else would I be? I don’t race again for about an hour.”

“No, I mean… I’m happy that you’re here in general. I’m just… I’m happy, Selma. You make me happy. Normally, I’d be so pissed off, and I’d have my head down watching the video and screaming in my head because I’m out, and it wasn’t my fault, but I’m not because you’re here.”

“You’re not worried that we maybe stayed up too late or that you didn’t get enough preparation time or anything because of me?”

“No,” she replied. “I felt good today. I would’ve won that race. I had my timing down, I knew the turns, and the jumps. My board felt good on my feet. I would’ve won. I didn’t because of someone else, but there’s nothing I can do about that now. So, I’m going to be a supportive girlfriend and cheer you on the rest of the way. Bring home the gold, Driscoll.” She leaned in and softly added, “I want to see you wearing that, and only that.”
