The food tastes weird. The child stares at the plate of meat and grimaces, not wanting to partake, but knowing he'll starve if he doesn't. The children's table doesn't get many options, even if the adults do. Where are the fruits? He really likes fruit.

The Luminary floats through the hall and the child keeps his head down, afraid to attract attention. He saw what happened to the last child who attracted attention. He hasn't seen her since.

Once the Luminary passes, the child looks down at his plate and frowns. His stomach grumbles in both hunger and fear.

Something isn't right.

His stomach hasn't been right since he came to the Followers of the Crimson Merge with his mother.

Where is his mother? He hasn't seen her in days now. She said she'd see him at dinner but she's not here. She's not here. She's not here.

He steels his spine and takes a bite of the strange meat on his plate.
