34. Chapter Twenty-Nine
Chapter Twenty-Nine
J esse had a short nap, then one of the nurses came in and walked her to the bathroom the first time. They went over all the things she could do, along with some things about the girls. Jesse would love a shower, but she definitely didn't have time before her family or the horde, as Cannon had called them, descended.
She hoped someone was bringing the bags they'd packed for the hospital. She had some nice nursing nightgowns she'd rather have along with her nursing bras. She opened the door and Cannon immediately walked over to help her back to bed. She motioned to the larger family bed on the other side of their suite.
"I want to move to there so we can all cuddle together. It's the whole reason I requested the birthing suite."
Cannon led her over there, pulling back the cover and situating a pillow behind her. Then he pushed the girls' small bed thing over. Though it really looked like someone had cut the top off a clear plastic tub and mounted it to a TV tray. She was sure the hospital paid major bucks for something she could probably improve on in her garage.
Cannon slipped off his shoes and slid in beside her after he laid the girls on the bed between them. He was looking at the bracelets.
"What are you thinking?"
"I'm wondering how long we can have them wear the bracelets after we go home. How will we tell them apart?"
Jesse lifted Ginny into her arms, unwrapping her a little. She had the striped hat Jesse had seen most newborns with and then a diaper on. Cannon had picked up Rissa and was doing the same thing. Side by side they did look identical.
"Well, I'm happy to like paint a toenail, but I don't want fingernails painted because they might ingest the nail polish. I guess we could also put their names on their socks."
Jesse had thought through so much but not how to tell the girls apart. Maybe the family would have a good idea. She'd picked the overalls Cannon bought the girls along with the shoes he'd bought them to bring them home in. Other than that, she'd just picked cute outfits.
"Knock, knock. Can we come in?" Locks' voice called.
"Come on in, Dad," Jesse called back.
Her dad, Baron, Regina, Stella, and Clara all walked in, followed by her sisters, their husbands and the rest of the MC. And this was exactly why she'd requested the birthing suite. It was a huge room with multiple couches plus the king-size bed for her and Cannon.
"Okay, let me have one of my grandbabies," Locks directed.
Bear handed something to Cannon.
"Hold on. I'd planned on doing this before the birth, but our little ones stole my thunder, so bear with me."
Cannon pulled a leather item out along with a small box. He knelt on the bed beside her and the girls.
"You have given me everything. I can't think of anything more I want for the rest of my life than to have you as my wife and for you to wear my Property cut. Will you be mine forever, Jesse?"
Cannon kneeled there with that hopeful look on his face and she couldn't make him wait.
"Of course, because you promised me that someday our love story would be my favorite. It already is."
When her dad started to lean closer to pick up a baby, Cannon held out a hand.
"I'm also promising to always protect and love our daughters." He handed her two little Property of Cannon cuts with Princess Ginny on one and Princess Rissa on the other.
"These are perfect, but what about that other woman who keeps wearing the Property of Cannon T-shirts?"
Although Jesse hadn't known about the girls' cuts, she and Cannon had discussed some way to make Clara feel special.
"Well, since Clarissa is named after her and she's the woman who has been a mother to me since I met her, I thought she needed her own cut."
Cannon turned to Clara with a Property of Cannon cut with Cannon's Mom on the front. Clara accepted it as tears rolled down her face. It was one of the few times when Jesse had seen Clara speechless.
"Now, can I hold one of the girls?" Locks grumbled.
"As long as you've washed your hands. No germs for my little darlings today," Cannon said.
Jesse grinned as her dad walked to the sink and washed his hands, glaring at Cannon as he did. Locks walked over and Jesse handed Ginny to him. "Ginny, this is your Papa Locks. He is going to teach you all about how strong you can be."
Locks kissed Ginny's forehead then leaned close to kiss Jesse's forehead. "I'm proud, and your mom would be too."
Jesse breathed deep. She could spend today crying, or she could relish each and every moment with her family. She and Cannon may have had a rough ride to get here, but seeing him with the girls, she wouldn't change a thing.
Jesse listened to her sisters and friends bickering about who got to hold the girls first.
