Chapter 51

Iloved it when they figured it out, but the only reason I was playing this game still was because I was barely able to contain my rage. It was my fault Medusa was taken. My half sister never bothered her when I was around. Like Persephone and Medusa, I was associated with crops. I wasn’t just the God of Wine and Orgies, though I was that, too.

I had to leave to deal with a famine when Persephone was still in the Underworld. I should have taken her with me. I should have insisted she come. Medusa wanted to stay and run her booth at a festival. Athena swooped in and broke her glasses.

And then I finally saw what they did to her. My Medusa had been a gloriously curvy witch. They’d starved her. She’d lost so much weight I could feel her ribs. I wanted to rip that man apart, but he got away. I’d hunt him to the ends of the earth and make it hurt.

“Kinda obvious now that you guessed, right?” Persephone said.

“Yeah, actually. And I get why you kept it a secret at first, but not after we knew your mate was ours,” Cas grumped.

He was adorable when he pouted.

“Aren’t you supposed to have flaming blue hair?” Benji asked Hades.

Ah, fuck. Hades snarled at him. He hated that movie. Hades was about to go on an hour long rant on the accuracy of a kids’ movie and Benji was just sitting back looking immensely proud of himself. Yeah, that was why Benji was meant for me, too. He wasn’t afraid to poke the Lord of the Underworld. Medusa decided to nip it in the bud before Hades could get started.

“The guys said you told them that I’m the answer to stopping the Coalition,” Medusa said. “Were you just telling them that to get them to rescue me or is there something you needed to tell me?”

I could never keep secrets from her, but my half sister finally decided to drop a big one. I’d all but brawled with Athena over what she did to Medusa because it didn’t fucking make sense. Athena was a sore loser, so I kind of got Arachne. Cursing a poor green witch Posidon raped in her temple because he was mad at Athena? It had never made sense to any of us that knew Athena.

“Uh, yeah. When you got taken, I was furious. I gathered the squad, and we all went to yell at Athena. She finally told us why she keeps showing up and breaking your glasses. Athena isn’t trying to ruin your life, she’s just a little misguided.”

“Really. Because it feels a lot like she’s trying to ruin my life.”

How to tell her this when she was this weak. My half sister didn’t curse her the way she thought she did. Athena thought she was helping her, not punishing her for what Poseidon did. She was trying to make my mate become.

“Athena said she wasn’t punishing you and you’ve never been a Gorgon this entire time. She was breaking your glasses because she was trying to trigger you into becoming what she made you.”

“And what’s that?”

“Medusa, Athena didn’t turn you into a Gorgon. She turned you into a Fury. And a Fury can bring down the Coalition and the angels with a little help from her squad.”
