Chapter 50

So, Di was finally back. He only had one Coalition victim with him. It was a little disappointing no one else wanted to fight, but I got it. They wanted to be with their families. I was happy to see who he brought with him. Father Nathan had been a tremendous help. He deserved to meet his friend again.

Di and his friends were oddly clean considering they’d just stormed New Eden Asylum. Even Oberon was clean. What had they been doing?

“Love the plant,” Di winked. “Can we sit?”

I led them to the living room. Di and his friends sat on one side of the living room and we sat on the other. I wasn’t angry that Medusa sat with him. She needed him.

“So, Oberon came with us because of his friend, but everyone else still wants to fight. They just wanted to go home to check on their families first. Their families will probably want revenge, too, and there are other facilities all over the US. They will be fighting on their home turf. Don’t lose heart, big guy. They didn’t abandon you,” Di said.

I just grunted. I was still trying to figure him out. Who was this guy?

Pax and Benji already seemed to have figured it out, and they were keeping secrets.

“What happened after we left?” Pax asked.

“Oh, we razed it to the ground and then my wife erased all traces of it. Hannibal escaped, but if he tries to talk about supernaturals killing anyone at New Eden Asylum in Roanoke, there’s going to be no record of there ever being one there,” the goth man said.

“That’s not possible,” I said.

Because it wasn’t. The internet was a massive beast and then there were the historical paper records because of how old the place was. He just smiled at me like a psycho. Yeah, this guy made me uneasy.

“Not when you’re my wife.”

His wife crawled in his lap and they started furiously making out. I cleared my throat because they were getting pretty graphic. That was also a six thousand dollar couch and the only sex juices I wanted on it were mine or my mates’.

“Dude, gross,” Di said.

“Can we focus?” the bearded man said. “Just trust that we’re perfectly capable of wiping New Eden off the planet when they don’t have that ward up. The three of us aren’t warriors, but we have enough skill.”

Could have fooled me. The bearded guy was bigger than I was. Di was more on the lithe side, but I could tell he could throw down. Whatever magic the goth guy had, it was probably dark. His wife seemed a little unhinged.

“Your mates are hot as shit,” the woman said.

“Watch it,” the goth man said, slapping her ass.

“Yes, daddy,” she giggled.

“How are the glasses working out?” the bearded man said.

“I love the cat eye thing you did this time.”

“If I could make them so Athena couldn’t break them, you know I would.”

That was when it hit me. It was so obvious. I fell out laughing. An ugly guy who could make anything, a hedonist who ran a winery, and the voraciously in love couple whose story was different depending on which legend you believed.

Di looked pleased as pie.

“I’m guessing you finally figured it out.

“Hephaestus, Hades, Persephone, and Dionysus.”

Now, they were all grinning at me like psychos.
