CHAPTER 36

Despite his words, Griffin acted like a boyfriend in most ways. It had been a few weeks of absolute heaven. When we weren't training, we spent almost all our spare time together. And even if he'd disappear for a bit and I'd spend time with the girls, he'd always find me, slot himself in and find a way to be touching me. It had become such a normal occurrence that the rest of them didn't even bat an eyelid when he'd pick me up and put me in his lap while we were mid conversation or slid between us on the couch so I was leaning on him. I had to admit it was really fucken cute.

But I also didn't fully understand what he actually defined as being a ‘boyfriend', because as far as I was concerned, we were essentially doing everything a couple did. He'd even admitted to me he hadn't actually slept with anyone else since that first week I arrived at the academy. And obviously I hadn't either.

As confusing as our relationship was, I did understand that based on his past, he didn't believe in promises or commitments.

Whatever we were, I liked it. Title or no title.

We were sitting in our usual spot along the large concrete table in the Diner, getting deep and discussing the possibility of life in other galaxies and the existence of multiple universes while eating some dessert. Now was no different to every other time we were with our friends, with Griffin's large arm around my waist, I was huddled into the crook of his body. At this point, it felt so normal for us.

Not that it didn't still give me goosebumps. It did. The tingles never ceased when he touched me.

"So," Kit started. "Do you think the Kitanas in other universes are as bad-ass as me? Like do we think they're the same as us or completely different people?"

I popped a chocolate covered strawberry in my mouth while I thought. There was chocolate on my fingers so I reached over to get a napkin but Griffin grabbed my wrist before I could. He pulled it towards his mouth and looked down at me. Slowly, so slowly, he put my finger in his mouth, wrapping his lips around it as he sucked off the chocolate. We didn't break eye contact. His silver eyes bored into mine as my heart pounded ever so fast. I was so mesmerised by him that I forgot our friends were sitting right there.

"Okay, wow. I am officially turned on," Kit admitted. When I broke his gaze and looked over to her, she was fanning herself. "Is it getting hot in here or is it just you two?"

"Damn." Carter breathed from my other side, watching us with an excited gleam in his eyes. Billie just smiled, eyes wide at the show of affection.

I blushed. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." Even though they may have been used to us at this point, it still made me embarrassed.

"Don't apologise," Griff rumbled, still holding my hand. Before I could say anything else, he was pulling me up. "We'll be back," he stated.

"Griff–"

I was cut off as he pulled harder, dragging me towards the kitchen.

He pushed the door open, barging in on Juliet and another tiny girl with skunk hair—Rose—that she seemed to hang out with quite often. They were drinking tea and chatting at the counter.

"Out," he commanded, his tone intimidating and impatient. They took one look at us and smiled knowingly before grabbing their stuff and heading towards the door. I gave them an apologetic look.

Once they had left, he picked me up and sat me on the counter.

"You didn't have to—"

He didn't let me finish my reprimand before he began his assault on my lips. After a few passionate seconds had passed and I was thoroughly invested, he pulled away for a second.

"Do you want me to stop?" He breathed huskily against my neck as he made his way down it, placing fevered kisses along the length. The neck was my weakness, and he had come to that conclusion all on his own. Not that it was hard to figure out.

"No," I sighed, trying—and failing—to not sound too desperate.

"Good."

"Griff, it's too open here!" I tried to protest as he started to roam under my top. I knew we'd been getting creative with our settings but this was a little too exposed for me.

"Fine."

I wrapped my legs around his waist before he picked me up again, this time heading towards the large pantry behind us. He pushed the door open with his back as he continued to kiss me. With each second it was more and more frenzied. When he pushed me up against a metal shelf full of supplies, they rattled noisily. I welcomed the roughness, hardly feeling anything but his touch. I unwrapped myself from him and he gently shifted me to let my feet find the ground again. Once I was stable, I pushed him against another shelf, causing more than a few items to fall on the floor. He grinned wickedly, enjoying the show of my feisty side as we fought for control. Somehow, we lowered onto the floor and I leaned over him, grabbing his face, his hair, whatever I could, as I deepened the kiss. I could feel Griff lift his hand, feeling around the shelves for something. And then I heard rattling.

My brows furrowed as I pulled away from him long enough to investigate. I strained to see what he had.

A can of whipped cream.

I bit my lip in anticipation and he sprayed it onto my chest before licking it up. Then he was over me and the cream found its way down my stomach. Before I knew it, the stuff was everywhere.

We were in a very sticky situation.

Luckily Griffin was a clean freak. And I wasn't complaining that he was choosing to use his tongue to clean up this specific mess. Or that I got to use mine.

"We're taking this to your room for later," I stated.

He chuckled, "No complaints there."

Once the whipped cream had been thoroughly devoured, we did some unspeakable things on the pantry floor. Ones that surely were not hygienic, but we'd at least made sure not to touch anything else, except for the one can that would be coming back with us.

As I put my clothes back on and observed the mess we had made in here, I laughed to myself. "Well, this sure isn't something I'll ever forget."

"Likewise." He grabbed me again as his lips found mine for one more single, passionate kiss. "You're too good to forget, Venus."

I was losing control and falling for him despite my best efforts not too.

"Griffin Gray, you really are the greatest of all time."

His laugh, that had become music to my ears, seemed to echo in the small space as he appreciated the homage to one of the earlier moments in our relationship. One that had played a pivotal role in getting us to this place; a place of happiness for the both of us.

To think that things might not have played out like this if I never took a chance on New York City. If I never made the decision to find myself and follow my destiny.

If I never asked him to train me.
