15. Calix
Chapter fifteen
Calix
I s this what heaven feels like? The scent of cinnamon and cloves fills my lungs. I inhale deeply while I continue to feed. Light kisses touch my hair, and the sweetest praise is whispered into my ear.
I blink my eyes open and see my mate. My dragon.
For the first time in days, I feel strong.
I pull my fangs out of my mate’s wrist and lick the wound closed.
“See,” he grins at me. “I told you that you couldn’t hurt me.”
For the first time in weeks, I feel brave.
Tracing my fingers over Zero’s amethyst wings, I remember the way he soared over the forest. His dragon was so beautiful from the cave’s opening. I knew he would come.
“I love you, Zero.”
He helps me stand, before tipping my mouth up to his. Zero pours all his emotions through our shared bond. I smile against his lips.
For the first time in years, I feel loved.
Beaming up at Zero as he gathers me into his arms. Despite my new-found strength, I curl into his side and close my eyes. “Will you take me home now?”
For the first time ever, I feel safe.
“I love you too.” He presses another kiss against my lips. “Calix, my beautiful, beautiful vampire.” Zero gazes into my eyes.
Like a fire blazing through our souls, absolution shines within our bond.
“Let’s go home.”
