Chapter 6
CHAPTER SIX
B iting my lower lip, I stare at the clothes I've laid out on the bed. I'm filled with nervous excitement about tonight. It's wrong because I shouldn't be thinking about those sexy twin cowboys, but I can't help it. Since the moment I met them, they've become a permanent fixture in my mind.
I'm newly separated, it hasn't even been forty-eight hours. Yet, here I am with all these dirty thoughts of these two strangers.
After today, they don't feel that way. I've shown them more of my true self in one day than anyone in my life has ever seen.
I don't know how to feel about that. It's like being around them takes away all my worries. I don't feel judged to act, talk, or look a certain way.
When I'm with them, I'm not worrying if my laugh is too loud, or my smile is too big. Or if I'm being embarrassing.
I can just… be.
All I've been doing is praying that these two weeks go by incredibly slow. Because I already know I don't want to go back home anytime soon.
The knock at the cabin door makes me jump. Quickly, I rush to answer it and find the twins' sister, Hadley, and their sister-in-law, Sophia.
"Hey, girly," Hadley says, stepping inside. "Ready for tonight?"
"Not even close," I groan as I follow her into the room. She looks at the clothes on my bed, picking up one of my dresses. "Babe, yeah this won't do. I mean, it's gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but I feel like if I look at it the wrong way, the value is going to go down."
"Stop it." I gape at her.
"What?" She grins. "You're Miss Money Bags, I can see that much."
"I'm more than just my money," I huff, feeling a little hurt.
"Sorry." Hadley grimaces. "Sometimes my mouth opens before my brain catches up. I don't mean it as a bad thing. Just, if you're going to fit in around here, you're going to need something more like this."
Sophia puts a bag on the bed and pulls out a few dresses and Hadley pulls out a top and a pair of shorts.
"So, you can go Southern bell," Sophia says, holding the dresses.
"Or Daisy Dukes." Hadley holds up the shorts and shirt.
They all look cute, but I've been in jeans all day, something flowy might be nice. "Dress for sure." I point to Sophia.
"Good choice." She laughs. "Which one?"
The pure white sundress has cute patterns on it with slightly puffy off-the-shoulder sleeves and flows down to about knee length. "That one."
"Girl, you are going to drive the boys wild in that." Hadley grins wide. "I can't wait to see my brothers' tongues hanging out of their mouths."
My cheeks heat. "I don't care what they think." I take the dress and walk over to the full-length mirror. "I'm just looking to have some drinks, dancing, and a fun time."
"Mhhmm," Hadley says, amused. "You know, we won't judge you if you get your flirt on with the twins right?"
"I know," I whisper, chewing the inside of my cheek.
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened with you and your husband?" Sophia asks.
I sigh, gathering the dress in my arms and taking a seat on the edge of the bed. "First off, I don't want you to think I don't value marriage and love and all that amazing stuff," I whisper. "The thing is, Greg and I might be married, but it's paper only. There's no love there, never has been."
"Then why did you get married?" Sophia's brows scrunch together.
"Because of the world we come from." I shrug. "I learned from a young age that any idea of falling in love and being happy was not in the cards for me. I was already signed away to be married off to the son of whatever family my father chose for me."
"That's horrible," Hadley mutters. "Couldn't you have told him no?"
"I could have." I nod. "But then I'd risk losing my money and becoming an outcast to my family. As messed up as their ways are, I still love my mom. I love my dad too, but we're not close. It's like they tried to make it so that I'd rely on them to take care of me. Didn't always work because I did have a mind of my own, much to their displeasure. I might be a rich city girl, but I never felt like I belonged there."
"Where do you feel like you do belong?" Hadley asks.
"Call me crazy, but here." I laugh like it's the craziest thing I could say. "It's only been two days, not even, and I've felt more alive, more free than I've ever felt in my life. And the two weeks are looming over me. I don't want to go back. Not yet anyways."
"You could always stay," Hadley says. "We're always looking for help around the ranch."
"Thanks." I give her a small smile. "I wish it was that easy."
Sadly, I'd have to deal with my life back home at some point. I can't hide here forever, can I?
"So, if your parents are determined to marry you off to someone of their choosing, what do they think of you getting a divorce?"
"Not too happy. But there was a clause put in place. If either of us cheated, it gave the other one an out. He cheated. God knows for how long. So, I have every right to leave him and I plan to."
"So you're free then?" Sophia adds, smiling.
"Maybe? I still have to talk to my parents about everything. Knowing my dad, he probably is already searching for a new husband for me. But, someone who would take damaged goods because a divorce under my belt after only a few weeks doesn't make me prime pickings." I roll my eyes.
"Girl. You need to get out of that life and run. Run far." Hadley blows out a breath.
"Anyways." I force a smile, wishing so much I could do what she just suggested. "I have two weeks of having fun and doing whatever the hell I want." I grin.
"Hell yeah, you do," Hadley says excitedly. "Let's get you all dolled up and go drinking."
An hour later, we're all dressed up and I catch a ride with Hadley in her Jeep. She said the guys had to take care of something down at the bar and would meet us there. Honestly, I'm glad because it gave me a little bit more time to relax before I saw them.
When we get to the bar, the parking lot is packed. The music flows out of the open bar door, people hanging out having a smoke, laughing, chatting.
"Hope you're ready to get drunk tonight, baby." Hadley laughs, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. "I sure know I am."
We stop just before the front door. "If you're looking to make my brothers jealous, don't dance with another man, come grab me." She grins wickedly.
"Why?" My brows furrow.
"Because I told them one day, I'd be stealing their girl since they've done it to me one too many times."
My eyes widen. "Oh," I whisper. She's into women.
"Yeah, baby doll." She laughs. "Don't worry, I won't actually hit on you." She wiggles her eyebrows. "Unless you want me to."
"Thanks." I laugh. "And if I was into women, you would totally be my type."
"Why thank you, baby." She kisses me on the cheek. "Now, let's get shit-faced."
She drags me into the bar. Sophia and her husband, Marshall are already there on the dance floor. He has his arm around her possessively. My heart clenches at the way they look at each other. Pure and utter love and devotion. I want that, I crave that.
I just want someone to love me, to cherish me. I don't want to have to be forced to marry some guy my parents choose. I only have one life, is it worth wasting it with someone who I don't love? Someone who only wants me because of my money or the power my last name can bring them?
God, I need a fucking drink.
"Hadley, get me drunk."
"You got it, babe." She laughs.
An hour later, I'm pretty tipsy. But, I'm having a good time. Marshall let Sophia out of his hold long enough so that we could have a few dances. He's been at the back of the bar, watching her like a hawk as he talks to his brother, Carson.
"Where are your brothers?" I ask Hadley. I've been keeping an eye out for them all night but nothing.
"They should be around here somewhere. I know they came down to help Gerald unload a big shipment for the bar."
"Oh." I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty disappointed. They asked me out tonight, only not to be here. But I get it, they're helping someone out. They're busy.
Maybe it's just the alcohol, making me a little moody. "I gotta pee," I tell her. "Where are the bathrooms?"
"Just back there, through that open door, down the hall, all the way at the end and to the left. The ones closer are being renovated. Thank Marshall and Sophia for that one." Hadley shoots her sister-in-law a naughty grin.
"I said I was sorry," Sophia groans.
"What happened?" I laugh.
"Marshall followed me to the bathroom. Let's just say things got hot and heavy. And well, he meant to take me against the bathroom sink, but ahh, he sat me on top of it."
"And fucked her so hard the thing broke and flooded both bathrooms."
"Oh my god." I can't help but laugh.
"We paid for it," she says defensively. "But god, that was one of the best orgasms I've ever had."
"One thing you gotta know about them two: they will fuck anywhere. We've walked in on them more than once."
"It's like it's the twins' mission to catch us every time," Sophia mutters.
"Like you make it hard for them to do it." Hadley laughs.
I leave the two of them and head for the bathrooms. Three drinks and two shots seem to be my bladder's limit.
Turning the corner, I walk down the long hall. When I get to the end, I can't remember if it's left or right.
I take a right and hope I'm going the right way. "Sorry, Amy." My brows furrow when I hear Wyatt's voice.
I pause at an open door. The twins are there in the back of the bar next to a truck. Both of their shirts are off and my mouth can't help but water. Then I see a few women standing next to them. A pretty blonde in short shorts and a crop top brushes her hand along his toned arms. "Come on. One dance." She pouts. "Please."
"Not tonight." He gives her a smile.
"What about you?" another girl asks, looking at Weston who wipes his sweaty face with his shirt.
"Sorry, ladies. Not gonna happen. I got myself a hot date tonight." He winks.
My stomach drops. He has a date? Then why would he ask me to come to the bar?
I guess it wasn't him, but Wyatt who asked. Or, maybe they just asked to be nice.
Turning on my heels, I storm down the hallway. I end up finding the bathroom. When I'm done, I stare at my reflection in the mirror. I have no right to be jealous. I don't even know these guys. I'm married for fuck sake.
Still doesn't make the gross feeling go away.
"Get ahold of yourself, Emma," I mutter to myself.
Heading back out to the bar, I freeze when I see the twins talking to Hadley. They have their shirts on now, but that Amy girl seems to be lingering nearby, talking to her friends as she eyes Wyatt up.
Before I know what I'm doing, I'm storming over to Hadley. "Dance with me?"
"Emma," Weston says my name but I ignore him and pull Hadley to the dance floor.
"You good, babe?" Hadley asks as we start to dance.
"I'm fine." I smile and turn around in her arms to see the twins watching us, matching displeased looks on their faces as I grab Hadley's hands and put them on my waist, grinding my ass against her.
"Slow down there." She laughs. "You wanna make them jealous, not kick their sister's ass."
"They're not jealous," I huff, twisting in her arms again.
"You sure about that?" She gives me an amused look.
"Red, why did you walk away from me?" Weston is standing next to us, a sexy frown on his face.
"Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking to your date." I smile up at him and Hadley huffs out a laugh.
"Date?" he asks. "What date?"
"The one you told those girls you had." I glare at him before looking over to Amy and her friends.
He looks at the girls then a slow grin takes over his face. He pulls me from Hadley's arms and wraps his arm around my waist. "Oh, Red." He chuckles. "I was talking about you."
Heat takes over my face and I feel stupid for overreacting like I did. "You were?"
He leans in and brushes his mouth against the shell of my ear. "Were you jealous, Red?" he murmurs, making me shiver as I suck in a breath.
I feel a body press in behind me. "Haven't you noticed that you're the only one who holds our attention?"
Wyatt.
My eyes flutter shut as the three of us sway to the music. My body feels hot, my belly an achy burn. Their hands roam my body, their lips just hovering over my skin.
When Weston presses his leg between my thighs, I let out an embarrassing squeak. I'm so damn turned on right now I can't think. I can't breathe.
"I need a drink," I blurt and pull myself away from in between them and rush over to Hadley.
"You good?" She laughs.
"No." I shake my head and order another drink. "I think we need to leave before I do something stupid."
"Like what?" she asks.
"Like fuck one of your brothers."
"Oh, honey." She laughs. "If you're going to fuck one, you gotta fuck both. They don't do anything alone."
My cheeks are flaming now. Because yeah, I don't think I'd be able to pick just one. I want them both. And bad.
"Babe. You've been living for everyone but yourself. You seem like a good person, Emma. You deserve to do something for yourself. Even if it's letting loose and having some fun. It doesn't make you a bad person."
I bite my lip and look out to the dance floor. The guys have moved back toward the wall, leaning against it, watching me with hungry gazes that do nothing to help.
I'm not ready for this. It's too much, too fast.
"I'm going to take a walk." I pay for my drink, quickly down it, and head for the door.
What was I thinking? This isn't who I am. This isn't like me.
But what if it could be?
