Epilogue
It wasa week after all the crazy revelations, decrees from the Pack Council, and my farewell to Moonstar. I’d only told Cannon and my brother that I had met with her. I returned in the early hours the next morning, dawn was just breaking the sky, and both of them had been waiting for me. Both pissed off and frustrated with me for being gone for so long, alone.
I was too broken to lie. Piece by piece, we figured out what happened. Barbara had linked herself to our bond. With it, she knew if either of us was in danger. When she felt the strain on the bond, she had yanked me out of my body, thinking she was saving me. Not knowing the bond of friendship between my mate and my brother, their Wills combined gave them the strength to heal me.
It had taken them a while, but they had done it. By then, Barbara thought the only thing in my body was the spirit of Moonstar. Not being close enough to my body, she hadn’t sensed it was empty.
The shaman would have but he thought the druid had put us both in the rabbit.
That fucking rabbit. If I ever saw it again, I was going to eat it.
I would never tell Barbara or the shaman where Moonstar was. That she was truly free. It was a secret I would keep from them, and I made my brother and my alpha do the same. Cannon worried Barbara might search for her, but I decided that Barbara was content to stay here, close to me and Kris. She seemed to like it here, and after Cannon had a private conversation with her, she was happy to stay.
The Blackridge Peak Pack had no shaman, but it did have a druid and a doctor. Magic and science blending as one.
Kris was getting ready to reclaim Anterrio Pack permanently and move back there. Cass was delighted to be returning home, but nervous too, knowing she had the chance to change. To be better. Cannon’s words to her that night months ago may have been harsh, but they resonated more than perhaps he even realized.
Life was almost normal. I was ready for normal.
I was folding laundry when the first stab of pain shot into my abdomen, and I doubled over in agony. The second pain made me cry out. The third followed swiftly, and I pulled myself towards the study, where my mate was carrying out pack business.
I looked up and saw he was already at the doors, his eyes burning with desire as my heat swept through me.
“Kezia?” His voice was a low growl, and my core tightened with need.
Running my hand over my abdomen, I tried to smile through the pain. “Want to re-form a mate bond?”
Cannon was already taking his clothes off. “I thought you’d never ask.”
