W e walk into the facility Daire’s sister is being cared for behind my Vampire. My hackles have been up since we left Daire’s apartment. Every person who looks at Warrior too long has me ready to start a fight. Kili seems to share these thoughts because he’s growled at several strangers. Daire has done a good job of keeping Warrior distracted as we walk, but the closer we got to the facility, I could tell he was getting nervous.
“I’m here to see Felicity,” Daire says to the woman behind the front desk of the sterile building. “These three are with me.”
“Hello there, Daire. Good to see you. Felicity will be so happy to see you. Have a seat, dear,” the older woman says as she picks up the phone to make a call.
“I also wish to speak with Doctor West. And billing,” Daire adds, and the older woman's eyes go wide.
“Okay, dear.”
We only wait a couple of minutes before an older man walks out to speak with Daire. When Kili, Warrior, and I stand to follow them, we get stared down. No one backs down, though, and the old guy doesn’t say shit about not allowing us to follow.
“What can I do for you, Daire? You know there aren’t any new treatments–”
“I’m going to stop you right there. I’m here to pay for the cure. Warrior is my mate’s Heart Bonded. He recently won the Elven games and has a crystal in his possession,” Daire interrupts, and the older man stops dead in his tracks.
I’m a naturally suspicious bitch, so I watch the oldie closely. One fucking hint of any shady business, and I’m kicking everyone’s ass.
“Daire…” the old man whispers, his eyes flicking to Warrior briefly. I can’t see Daire’s face since I’m behind him. But the old man’s eyes fill with tears. Hmm. Maybe he isn’t suspicious after all.
He rushes us into a small office and takes both of Daire’s hands into his. “The fates have blessed you. Come, let us hurry.” The old man moves with a speed I didn't think he was capable of, and I assume he must also be a Vampire.
“The fates have blessed me greatly,” Daire says, and I make a dramatic pouty face, before whispering a little “Awe.”
Kili stands like a sentry at the door, arms crossed, looking like a menace. Warrior takes a seat beside Daire across the desk from the old guy, whose name plate says, Harry West. I stand behind Daire, watching the old dude move quickly.
“We don’t have the treatment on site. As you can imagine, something so rare, so expensive is buried under a thousand pounds of red tape. However, a payment made in full, with an item so rare, such as the Elven crystal, expedites the process,” Harry explains.
Two hours later, and seventy thousand freaking signatures later, the payment is made. Trading your soul, firstborn child, and a million mungus would have been faster. Warrior shakes his hand out, flexing his fingers.
“Thank you,” Daire says, standing before Warrior. “I can never repay you for this, but I vow to stand beside you always. You have my gratitude and my fangs. Once we leave here, I will personally hunt down your abuser.”
“You’ll have to take a number there. I’m first in line to rip her fucking head off. Unless Warrior wants that honor?” I ask, but my sweet mate shakes his head vigorously.
“I wish to never see her again. Not even for revenge. If you say she is dead, I will believe you.” Warrior puts his hands up, taking a step back.
“Hey, it’s okay,” I promise, remaining where I stand. Even though I want to reach out and comfort him, I don’t want to upset him further.
“Grab her. You’ll feel better,” Kili grumbles, pointing to me. Warrior hesitates for only a breath, but then I’m being scooped into his strong arms and crushed against his chest.
“You are right. I do feel better,” Warrior mumbles against my hair as he presses his nose to my head.
“Are you ready to meet my sister?” Daire asks, as Warrior places me back on my feet.
“Yes,” I say, even though I’m nervous as fuck. Meeting family is huge. What if she hates me? I mean, Daire and I are Heart Bonded. He’s not going anywhere, but still, that would suck.
“Her room is just down the hall.” Daire laces our fingers, and I let him lead me. I’m attempting to control my breathing when he stops in front of a door. “She’s usually pretty tired when I visit.” With one last deep breath, Daire is pushing the door open and dragging us inside with him.
She looks so frail, lying in bed attached to different machines. Felicity is asleep when we walk in, but Daire walks right up to her bedside and leans over, pressing a kiss to her head. She wakes with a smile.
“Daire, I thought I heard you. It’s good to see you.” She blinks slowly at him, but when she notices the rest of us, her eyes grow wide. “Oh, you’ve brought friends…”
“Felicity, this is Moon, my Heart Bonded. This is Warrior and Kili, two of Moon’s other mates. Warrior won the Elven games yesterday,” Daire says, pausing to give his words time to sink in.
“No...” Felicity whispers, looking between Daire and Warrior.
“Yes,” Daire says as tears fill his eyes. He takes his sister's hand with his free one, squeezing it. “Warrior paid for the cure treatment today. You start tomorrow morning as soon as the medicine arrives.”
“Oh, Daire…” Felicity cries and looks over to Warrior. “Thank you, thank you so much…”
“My pleasure.” Warrior nods, taking a step away from the emotional woman. Kili also steps away. My poor broken men.
We only visit Daire’s sister for an hour before she falls asleep on us. Her current medications make her sleepy, and she won’t be ready to leave here for a few months. Daire’s parents were informed of the good news as well and will be spending extra time with their daughter.
I can tell Daire wants to stay with his sister, but when I told him to stay, he bit my finger, so I assume that was a no.
“Back to the Elven Realm? We have murders to plot,” I joke, but the darkness brewing in Kili’s eyes tells me exactly what he’s planning.
Moon
I’m already mentally planning our next steps when we arrive back in the Elven Realm.
Step one, rescue my kidnapped mates.
Step two, knock some sense into Lust.
Step three, murder the Fae Queen.
Step four, hunt down and murder Warrior’s kidnapping abuser.
Step five, figure out why the hell my mother lied about who my father is. This is the least pressing thing on the to-do list, but it’s still there.
Of course, all my carefully plotted plans fly out the fucking window when I see my Danger Lizard and One-eyed Giant.
“Cato, Odas?!” I gasp. We’d made it to the main hall of the palace and were going to find Evie. That plan also disappears when I see my mates. Fenrick and the others are also here, but I’ll deal with the rogue Fae in a minute. I take off in a sprint and launch myself into Cato’s arms.
He catches me easily, chuckling as I plaster kisses all over his face.
“Oh my god, are you okay? Did that bitch hurt you? I’m so glad to see you!” I’m crying again, but this time they’re happy tears. Thankful my mates are safely back with me tears.
“Yes, we’re okay. Thankfully, we weren’t there long enough for her to do any damage,” Cato says, burying his face against my neck. “You smell so fucking good,” he rumbles, making me shiver.
“Share…” Odas says from behind me, and I jump out of Cato’s arms, so I can leap into his.
“Are you okay?” I ask, even though Cato just answered. I press millions of kisses to his skin too, as more tears fall. “I was so fucking scared for you two…” Odas holds me tightly before claiming my lips in a fevered kiss.
“I was scared we’d shared our first and last kiss…” Odas murmurs against my lips.
“Never. I was coming for you the second we regrouped. Fenrick went rogue,” I grumble, as Odas sets me back on my feet. I look around for the sneaky fucker, but he’s gone invisible. “Show yourself. You scared the tits off me…”
“Your tits look fine to me,” Fenrick purrs in my ear, and I spin around to see him standing inches from me. I throw my arms around him and press my face to his chest.
“Oh, shut up,” I grumble, holding him tightly. “You put yourself in danger… You can’t do that to me! If something happens to you… I won’t ever be okay again.”
“If something ever happened to you, I wouldn’t survive it. I knew you’d storm the castle like a freaking lunatic. I saved them so you’d remain far away from my mother,” Fen defends, and I huff.
“Come on, Moon. We all have a lot to talk about. Like who the heck this guy is,” Cato says softly, and I look over to see him gesturing to Warrior.
“Another Mate,” I say, and Cato’s eyes go wide.
“And our brother,” Crow adds, and we all chuckle when Odas’s mouth pops open.
“Like you said, we all have a lot to talk about. I don’t even know where to start,” I admit.
