“ N o! No!” I scream, slamming my bloody fists against the iron bars I grew up trapped behind. “Release us!” The Phoenix just stands there, with no signs of recognition behind his dead eyes.
“Hush,” a man snaps, stepping into view, and I instantly recognize his voice.
“You!” I hiss, as he lowers the hood of his cloak.
“If you do as I say, you may survive this, Cato.”
“Why would I trust you!” I snarl, looking behind me where Odas is still unconscious on the floor.
“Because I am your only hope.”
I scoff at his words, spitting on the floor at his feet.
“Who do you think freed you, boy?!” the guard I used to see Fenrick with all those years ago asks. It’s only now that I realize that boy was in fact Fenrick.
“Fuck you,” I whisper, trying to hide my pain and fear behind my anger. I can’t be in here again. I can’t…
“She’ll kill you,” Odas coughs from behind me, and I hurry to his side, checking on the only person I’ve ever been scared to lose, before Moon. "She’ll find us, and she’ll kill you all.” he hisses, as I help him sit up against the wall of our cell. The cloaked man grunts, before responding.
“That’s what I’m counting on.”
