Theo puta block on Sara’s head, and then it fell off, and that brought a round of laughter from Sara, me, and even Theo. He did it again, and we all started laughing. Sara then frowned and looked over at me. “Why are we waughing?”
“Because it’s cute,” I said, chuckling, then glanced over to Kairo. He had remained strangely quiet. His eyes, though, stayed heavy on me. I tilted my head and stared at him. “Isn’t that right, Kairo. It’s cute.” I laughed, and Kairo simply nodded and smiled but continued to stare. It made me uneasy as I picked up a block and put it on Theo’s head. Shaking his head, the block fell off. Then Sara laughed loudly over that one.
“You’re right. It is cute,” he replied. She grabbed a block and put it on Theo’s head. He shook his head again, and it fell off, sending more laughs between the three of us. Still, Kairo remained way too quiet for the matter. Was he having thoughts that there wasn’t anything cute about this? Had the thrill suddenly gone out of our relationship, and he now wanted no part of it?
I put Theo on the floor to play with Sara and moved up onto the couch, moving my gaze to Kairo. “Alright, you’re staring.”
“Am I?” Kairo asked, looking up and arching an eyebrow.
I frowned. “Is something wrong?”
Kairo shook his head. “Nope.” He smirked and continued to gawk, making me uneasy by the second. I looked down at the children, then back up to him.
“Is this something we need to take in another room so prying ears don’t hear?”
“Nope.” Kairo shook his head, but I couldn’t get over the fact that something was clearly wrong with him. There was something in those eyes that said he had an issue, or a secret, or something. The way he gawked at me was definitely touching a nerve, and I wanted to figure out why before it drove me completely insane.
“Sooooo…” I started.
“Soooooo…” Kairo stated.
I threw up my hands, frustrated. “Kairo, you’re freaking me out here. If you haven’t noticed already, I can tell you that I’m dying to know why you have been staring at me for the last hour.”
I looked down, and Theo and Sara were back to laughing over the block falling off of one another’s head, and they seemed distracted, which gave us ample time to talk. If there was something Kairo wanted to talk about, then I would gladly hear him out. But we couldn’t resolve anything without talking. We had learned that way early into our relationship.
“So, why are you staring?”
Kairo smirked. “I’m not sure if I should tell you. I don’t want you to freak out.”
I sighed. “Well, that only freaks me out, even more, Kairo. If something is wrong, then I think I deserve to know.”
“Nothing is wrong,” Kairo said, and got up from his chair, then walked over to where I sat. He placed his hand on my stomach and looked up at me. “Are there any names you’re fond of?”
“What?” I squealed, jaw dropped, eyes wide. He couldn’t be serious. I hadn’t noticed anything that would suggest I was pregnant, but Kairo held that serious stare in his gaze, and he smirked, nodding slowly. “I thought I’d feel something,” I hissed, not sure I wanted the children to hear our discussion. “But, nothing. It’s like my body hasn’t changed at all.”
“It’s new, so that’s understandable.” Kairo winked at me.
“I don’t know, Kairo. I mean, that’s going to be a lot. This house is going to be full of little ones, and what if we’re not prepared for that?”
“I think we’ll do just fine,” Kairo stated. “What if we hire Ashley on as a full-time nanny? That should help take care of the burden. After all, once there are twins in the house….”
“Twins?” I squealed. The room started to spin, then turned to black as that was the last memory I had, and I fell into Kairo’s waiting arms.
