Chapter 84

84

He had a gun. She had never seen him before, and Dylan was ninety-nine percent certain the guy was high as a kite. She just didn’t know why he had grabbed her .

“Let me go!”

“Can’t do that. Boss says no witnesses. And I deserve something for this tonight. Fucking Will ruined everything. Should have just let Tyler have his fucking sister. She was a loser bitch anyway. Don’t know why Will cared so much.”

The guy dragged her down the gravel path. To where the cars and trucks were. Every step hurt. She fought as hard as she could.

No. She was going to make sure he paid for whatever sick evil he was a part of. Dylan screamed as loudly as she could.

Fletcher would come for her. And in the meantime, Dylan was going to fight.

The man she loved was out there, and he needed her, and she was going to fight for the life they were going to build together.

“Let me go!” Dylan kicked out in spite of how much it hurt. She felt weak, sick, and every inch of her was hurting. But this guy wasn’t going to keep her from the life she and her cowboy were going to build together.

She connected with his knee. He screamed, long and high-pitched.

What kind of animal was this guy?

He didn’t even sound human right now.

His arm went around her stomach, and he yanked her off her feet again. And almost ran. This time, being small wasn’t exactly helping.

Someone yelled her name. She knew who it was.

“Fletcher!”

“Nobody move!” a male voice yelled. “The police are on the way, and we have multiple weapons aimed at you now. Put her down and put your hands over your head.”

It was a voice that was familiar but not one she could identify right away. Not in the dark, but she had definitely heard it before. And it was help . And that was what mattered.

It gave her hope.

And well, Dylan never had really listened to orders.

She wrapped the fingers of her good hand in the jerk’s hair and yanked. As hard as she could.

Until he squealed out and dropped her.

Dylan landed hard.

This time, she didn’t think she could get back up. Not without help, anyway. All she could do was roll to the side, just a little bit.

Bright lights surrounded them.

She just stayed right where she was, trying to catch her breath and ignore the pain.
