Chapter 67

67

Fletcher’s phone rang. Fletcher wasn’t going to be able to answer it. He was too much of a mess.

Quade touched the dash console and had it on speaker through the truck. “Yes? Anything?”

It was Sage, Fletcher’s sister-in-law. Chief deputy of the Masterson County sheriff’s department. “Fletcher, I want you to stop right now. You can’t go vigilante. You just can’t. None of you can.”

“Anything new?” Fletcher asked. It was unstated, he wasn’t going to stop. Not until he had Dylan back.

Even if they never stopped searching, they were getting her back. Quade wasn’t even going to think of the alternative. He’d never stop either. Not until they had Dylan back. No matter what.

“Someone just used her smartwatch to dial 911 four minutes ago without a message. We’re tracking her now, but we’re too far away. We won’t be able to get to her for forty minutes or more. Joel has called in the WHP. They are sending a chopper. We’re doing the best we can.”

“We’re not going to do anything stupid, Sage,” Ben said. “But we’re getting our girl back. No matter what.”

“I suspected as much. Legally, I have to tell you to stop, guys. But… Keep yourselves safe out there, guys. We’re on our way.”

The call disconnected.

They had just turned onto the highway that ran to the south side of the county when Fletcher’s phone buzzed twice.

With texts. Quade hit the screen. Abby Vanderguard old ranch. Bruce. Abby’s brother took me. Hurry.

The second was more cryptic. More chilling.

I know you are coming for me. I love you and always will.

Quade just hoped those weren’t the last words she would ever say to the man beside him. Quade had lived that pain—it was more than he could sometimes bear.

“Abby Vanderguard’s old place,” Ben said. “That’s out on old Beise Road. Damned close to Derrick’s place.”

“Call Sage back. Tell her that’s the direction we’re headed,” Fletcher said.

Ben took it one step further. “Martin, call Clint. Redirect every damned Tyler we can to South Old Beise Road. I’m going to find Bruce, and I’m going to rip him apart.”

It was obvious Fletcher meant it. Quade understood.

“I’ll get Derrick and Jace and Uncle Bill,” Martin said. “They should already be down in that area. We’ll get to her, Fletch. And then you marry her and keep her forever, got me? Don’t ever let that beautiful, amazing Talley woman go.”

“I’m never letting her go again.”
