Business Again

They were riding in style today since Damon had appropriated the council jet for them. Joey enjoyed this kind of travel much better than hours at the airport followed by hours amid people she didn't know and occasionally even those she wouldn't want to know. Damon had told them the last time he called that he had hopes that Chief was on the run, but no one could say for sure. It had pissed her off when he had admitted being told Chief was just fucking with her to tie up council resources. That was so not cool. The building they went to was new and luxurious. This company owned the whole thing, and the man Joey had the meeting with was on the tenth floor, which happened to be the top floor too. Roger Thornton was an older man, but he was in great shape and some females might think him good looking. She looked surprised when she stepped into the room, but she smiled so she had to like it, right? Naqi held out her chair for her so they could sit and enjoy the meal. When he lifted the covers off their plates so she could see her food, he had ordered them both Pork Loin Capperi. Damon had told him it was one of her favorites and Naqi had never had it before. He took a taste and admitted it was damn good. Joey moaned with enthusiasm as she got her first taste. So far, so good.

He filled her wine glass with Moscato, a wine she preferred, and he liked it too, it was sweet and fruity. They talked a little as they ate. She told him the deal was going well and she thought tomorrow would see it done. Her hope was they could stay a couple more days and play tourist, sounded good to him. Dessert was Red Velvet Cake, and it was good too.

They were finished with the food and he was ready to move to the next step. Naqi dropped to one knee beside the table facing his mate then he pulled out the ring box, opened it, and looked deep into her eyes.

"Joey, I love you more than I can say. Will you honor me by agreeing to be my wife?"

Joey came out with Thornton, and he hurried to her side. He just felt better when she was right next to him. Thornton spoke to his secretary then hurried back inside his office.

"Sorry," she said with a shrug of her shoulders. "I did the best I could." Naqi shook his head.

"I had it under control."

"I was just making sure."

"What the hell do we do with these guys?"

"We'll have to leave them and get out of here quick. Too many humans around here."

"Let's take the stairs." They hurried down to the bottom floor. It was a long walk down ten flights of stairs.

"We'd better call Damon and see if he has anyone around."

"I'm on it," Naqi said. He dialed Damon's number and spoke to him when he answered.

"Damon, we were just attacked as we got on the elevator. We had to leave the wolves we took out on the elevator, too many human witnesses."

"I'll get someone there as fast as I can," Damon responded.

They hung up and Naqi looked at his beautiful mate wondering what the next danger would be and how he would protect her from it. Grabbing her hand, he hurried her out of the building. She needed to be fed, the pup needed his nutrition too. He found a nearby bistro, and they ate their lunch in silence.
