Epilogue

Blaine

I t was too quiet in there.

Was that a good thing? Blaine asked himself as he stared at the double doors that led into the meeting room where the council of alphas discussed matters concerning the planet and made their decisions. Wayden had walked into the room an hour ago.

What was happening?

Blaine rubbed his hands over his thighs nervously. The back of his hand brushed his belly, reminding him to calm down and not stress himself out. Stress wasn't good for his cub. But he couldn't help it. He wanted every omega on the planet to be free. He wanted Wayden's research to be accepted and taken seriously by the council of alphas. He wanted them to see that there was another way to live. However, he also knew that it wouldn't be easy to change the system, especially when everyone feared a repeat of what had happened with Deltta Kohle and his assistant.

The doors to the room opened, and the members of the council walked out. They mumbled to each other as they walked past Blaine.

It didn't sound good.

Wayden walked out a few minutes later. Wayden smiled as he walked up to him.

"How did it go?" Blaine asked.

Wayden helped Blaine to his feet and then led him out of the council office to the parking dome.

"Are you going to answer me?"

"I will. Once we get you into the shuttle and we are two or three towns away from here," Wayden said.

"What?" Blaine stopped walking. "Why? Tell me what happened in there."

"If I tell you, promise me you won't get angry. Think of our cub," Wayden said, touching Blaine's belly. Blaine slapped Wayden's hand away.

"I always think about our cub all the fucking time. Just tell me."

"They said no. Now come. We have a long way to go before we arrive at the pack. Are you sure you want to have the cub there? It would be better if we had it here. There is medicine here and doctors."

"What do you mean, they said no?"

"They can say no. My research is just that…research. It will have to be tested and tried before they change anything. I don't think anyone would raise a hand to be part of an experiment. And it would be difficult for the alpha king to be an alpha to everyone."

"I know that. But did you tell them about the scent thing. That an alpha only responds to an omega who shows interest in them, not every omega that walks and breathes," Blaine said. "It's ridiculous that such an important fact was forgotten and buried in history."

"Yes. I told them. But to them it's just theory."

"Fucking stupid alphas. I should go in there and…" Blaine turned to go back into the building. Wayden dragged him towards the parking dome. "Aren't you angry about this? You worked so hard… No, we worked hard. I thought this was it. That life will go back to normal, and all omegas will be free," Blaine screamed. The more Blaine thought about this, the angrier he got.

"No… no… you promised not to get angry."

"I promised no such thing," Blaine said. Wayden opened the shuttle door and ushered him inside.

"Just calm down, baby. This is not the end. It just means we have a lot of work to do. Our research doesn't end here. Xaine Covus is still funding us and Deltta Kohle is in too. We just have to convince the council of alphas."

"Deltta Kohle believes in your research?"

"Yes," Wayden said.

"Why didn't you say that?" Blaine said, walking to the front of the shuttle. He sat down and turned to Wayden. "We should get going before this cub comes."

"You're really going to be the death of me, you know that?" Wayden grumbled.

"I love you too," Blaine said. "Now, let's go and have our cub. I can't wait to see Owen. Holi is coming."

"I know. Xaine didn't look happy. And he let me know in no uncertain terms how he felt after the meeting with the council of alphas," Wayden said as he got into his seat.

Blaine started to laugh uncontrollably.

"I really don't know why you're laughing. This is all your fault. I don't understand why you want us to have our cub there when we can have it here."

"I want to have the cub there because that's where we began. Our love began in the most beautiful place on the planet. And I want our cub to have the same beautiful beginning we did." Blaine extended his hand to Wayden. Wayden took it, intertwining their fingers.

"To our beautiful beginning."

"To our beautiful beginning," Blaine repeated.

They arrived at the pack a week later. Owen screamed and ran to the shuttle as it came to a stop. Blaine got up to go to greet his friend.

"Be careful," Wayden called after him. Blaine rolled his eyes. He opened the door. A soft, soothing breeze drifted into the shuttle, making Blaine smile. He would never get enough of this place. It was even more beautiful in summer. Owen came rushing towards him. He wrapped Blaine into his arm and held him tight.

"I missed you too," Blaine said.

"Come, we have a hut prepared for you and your alpha," Owen said.

"It didn't blow away this time," Wayden commented behind them. Everyone laughed as they walked towards the hut. Escala was waiting for them there. He was all smiles too. Blaine walked into the hut while Wayden spoke to Escala. Blaine walked to the pile of furs, making up the bed and gasped.

"It's my gift to you and your cub," Owen said, picking up the blanket. He handed it to Blaine.

"Thank you," Blaine said, hugging the blanket to his chest.

"I can't wait for you to have your cub," Owen said excitedly. The omega was so cute, Blaine hoped Owen got to have the same thing. Blaine took a step to give Owen another hug, and then stopped.

"What?" Owen asked. "Is it happening? Now?"

Blaine nodded, clutching the blanket as pain radiated through him.

Owen screamed, and the chaos begun.

Blaine didn't remember much of what happened, but the minute they placed his cub in his arms was so clear because it was the most beautiful moment of his life. No wonder omegas were obsessed with having cubs.

"He's so handsome," Wayden said as he held their little cub in his arms. Blaine stared up at his alpha, falling in love all over again. Someone screamed from outside. The door opened a few minutes later as Holi ran in.

"You couldn't wait for me," he complained as he rushed to Blaine and gave him a hug. Xaine came to stand next to Wayden and stared down at the cub, unimpressed. "Don't make that face. We're having ours soon."

"No. We're not," Xaine said.

"You can't fight fate," Holi said.

Wayden and Blaine looked at each other and started to laugh.

You can't fight fate.
