“You’re not going to like it,” she warned, “but I really think that it’s the right move.” “What is it?” Hollis asked when she didn’t continue speaking.

“The Guild has unlimited resources,” she began. “As an analyst, sometimes I would have to go through target files and research things about a target to fill in the blanks before assigning the contract to an assassin. I could sneak back into headquarters and learn everything we need about Parote.”

“Absolutely not!” Rome growled, echoing my thoughts as my temper spiked.

“I can take care of myself,” Mia replied, getting off his lap to stand over him with her hands on her hips in a show of dominance. “Do you have a better idea?” Hollis asked. Rome’s head snapped in his direction, his wolf straining against his features to try and put Hollis in his place.

“If you have a better idea, I’m all ears. If not, I say we let Mia do her thing,” Hollis replied, unconcerned by Rome.

“I’m afraid I have to agree with Hollis,” Theo said. “I believe Mia is more than capable of accomplishing this task. It’s taken us this long to learn what we have about him, and it still isn’t enough. She could fill in all the blanks in an hour and possibly give us our only chance to take him out finally.” Mia beamed at both of them before she and Rome turned to look at me.

I sighed. I couldn’t believe I was about to say this. “Rome, I don’t like it either, but I have to agree with them. It might be our best bet.”

Rome’s shoulders sagged in defeat as a smug, triumphant smile spread across Mia’s face. He may be our pack alpha, but he would never try to force us to do anything and would accept it if he was outvoted.

“Then it’s decided,” Mia said. “Don’t worry, Rome, I’ll be careful.” She kissed the tip of his nose, hopped off the chair, and left the dining room. “I’m going to go pack so we can leave right away,” she called behind her.

“I think we have a new alpha,” I whispered to Hollis, making him snort as Rome glared at us.
