EPILOGUE
ONE YEAR LATER
B rent held onto Candace’s hands as they stood in the very spot Jessica and Travis had stood a year earlier reciting their vows. Now it was their turn.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Brent dipped Candace dramatically and pressed his lips to hers. The cheers of their family and friends could barely be heard as everything faded around them. His Candy was the only person he could see at that moment. Her blonde hair was in a curly updo and her veil hung down to the floor. Her striking green eyes stared back at him, and her dazzling smile reminded him he was the luckiest man in the world. He never pictured himself marrying Candace until the day it suddenly felt right.
Their proposal was anything but ordinary. One day, as they lay in each other’s arms after making love, he knew he needed to be with her forever. He hadn’t gotten a ring, and he blurted out how much he loved her and wanted her to marry him. To his surprise, she said “yes.”
He didn’t expect her to say “no,” but he figured she would at least give a little pushback since he didn’t propose properly. But she said it was perfect for them. Their relationship had always been a little out of the ordinary with the way they met and then meeting again so many years later. This just added more excitement to their story.
After Brent showed up at Candace’s place the year prior, they were never apart again. He left Boise and moved in with her, quickly finding a job with a company that valued him. Their relationship continued to grow stronger with each passing day.
They walked down the aisle and disappeared into a small room off to the side to give their guests time to move to the reception hall.
Brent pulled Candace into his arms and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“So, Mrs. Clark. How does it feel to be married?”
She shrugged and smiled, tightening her arms around his waist and resting her chin on his chest to look up at him. “It feels like it always does. I’ve always felt like we were married. It’s just official now.”
“So, should we consummate this marriage right now?” He bounced his eyebrows up and down suggestively.
She raised an eyebrow and giggled. “I’m pretty sure someone will come in here any minute to get us.”
“Is this a challenge? Please tell me this is a challenge.”
She laughed just as the door opened, and Kelly, the event coordinator for the wedding, popped her head inside.
“Are you ready for your big entrance?” Kelly asked.
Brent gave Candace’s hand a squeeze. “As ready as we’ll ever be. Right, Mrs. Clark?”
“Right, Mr. Clark.”
Kelly brought them over to the doors to enter the reception hall. Miles, the chef they had been working with, stood on the other side.
“We’ll pull open the doors and the DJ will announce you,” Miles said.
Miles and Kelly each grabbed a handle on the double doors and swung them open.
Brent and Candace walked through with all their friends and family clapping and cheering. He dipped Candace again, just as he had in the ceremony, and planted a kiss on her lips. He couldn’t wait to start the first day of the rest of their lives together.
