43. Pax

I knew how serious this was. It was the first step in our plan to make things safe for supernaturals. Benji had used the shadows to come back to Pepper's office and tell us Pepper was working with people in the last few countries where the Coalition was still legal to outlaw it there, too. There was going to be a press conference afterwards for the gods to do their thing.

I just couldn't stop giggling that they thought I was Lucifer. They couldn't even conceive a human or even a supernatural had infiltrated them and fucked them up, so that's where they went. Benji was going to milk that for months.

We wanted to see what was going to happen, but we could feel Medusa's distress. She finally reached out to us with the mental link. We hadn't used it so far because we were always in the same room.

"Guys, do you trust me?"

"Always."

"So, fury power, but do you remember how Father Nathan said that Saul's father used to be an early supernatural rights activist and then just completely dropped from sight?"

"Yeah. Then Saul came out Gold Party. It didn't really make a lot of sense, but it happens. I'm not like my father at all, but in a good way," Cas said.

"Well, Saul got into a bit of trouble and his dad paid some people off. Saul is his only son. Apparently, Hannibal is selling supernaturals. Usually young succubae. Do you get where I'm headed with this?"

Cas let out a growl and Benji poofed into the room in an instant.

"So, we killing a US Senator?" Benji said, cracking his neck.

"He's got one in the basement. Can you rescue her? And make it public."

Yeah, we could do that. And we didn't need to get arrested breaking into a Senator's house, either. Cas had contacts all over the country and supernaturals were everywhere. Some of them were cops, and some were pretty high up.

"You still got that FBI contact here?" I asked.

Before I could even finish speaking, I could hear Cas on the phone. Lucky was this crazy werewolf who got along great with Benji and was FBI.

"No, the only proof I have is my mate. She's apparently the fourth fury, and she's in the room with him right now. She's about to change history. Can we go with you? Fine."

We all stared at Cas expectantly. Lucky didn't usually let us come because it wasn't protocol but this was supernatural business. He shook his head.

"He won't let us come because this all has to be above board. He's trying to get everything together for probable cause. This is still the human world. A fury seeing it isn't enough."

"It should be!" Benji ranted. "She's a supernatural evil detector. It's morally reprehensible that her word isn't enough to summon armies!"

For once, Benji was right. Her word should have been enough.

"Lucky also said fuck you because he was watching and wants an introduction to one of the furies. He said if he misses Hades unleashing the dead on these bitches, he's never giving me his bean dip recipe.

"Lucky is being very Lucky at the moment, but he said if he can time it right, he's going to crash the press conference with an announcement that the Coalition has been trafficking supernaturals to perverts. Anyone who was supporting the Coalition financially is going to backtrack from that and this should end the Gold Party."

It should but it might not. There were already under the table donations that the Coalition didn't have to talk about and Saul would still have supporters because I'd seen that before.

"Listen, the Coalition isn't the first to do this to my kind. If Saul has one, there are others out there. The people that traffic us don't take a lump sum, no matter how much is offered. It's more like they rent us out because we're practically immortal.

"Our owners age, but we don't. When they can't get it up anymore, they can still profit off of us and they want us back. You can only transfer ownership to family or friends if they take over the contract and pay the fee. If the payment doesn't come, someone shows up to fetch their property.

"You need to let this Lucky know to search Hannibal's property. If you didn't find those records at New Eden, he's going to keep them at his house and they aren't going to be super obvious. The people who came to the basement hated me because of my succubus half, but it was in a prudish way. They would have a problem with this and I'm pretty sure either Hannibal started this or it's something that's getting passed to the next director as need to know to bring in money."

"Good point. Excuse me," Cas said, going to the corner to make another phone call.

Calamity and Kat were alternating between watching us and watching Pepper's monitor. Medusa was doing her thing in the chamber, but she'd given us as task and we were happy to do it. I think we all would have preferred rescuing that poor succubus and tearing Hannibal's house up to find who had the others, but we also trusted Lucky.

Lucky had grown up in our village and the only reason he left was to join the FBI. He was a good kid and if it couldn't be us, we trusted him to get it done. Lucky was pretty high up and he'd deliberately formed his team with other supernaturals.

Lucky was a wolf, so he'd be able to sniff out a succubus even if Saul had hidden her somewhere hard to find. There were other shifters that answered to him and he had some amazing computer people.

We were all discussing this new development. If Hannibal and Saul got arrested in the middle of the press conference, then a lot more people would know what they were up to. There just wasn't a lot of time.

"Uh, guys?" Calamity said.

"Seriously, I could just poof over and take a peek," Benji said.

"Guys?"

"No!" Cas said. "This all has to be above board. You might not think anything got messed up, but if it does, Saul and Hannibal's supporters could use that to say supernaturals made this up and they were innocent."

"Guys!" Calamity yelled.

We all turned to look at her because the young imp rarely raised her voice.

"We beat the big boss of this level. Pepper did it. The vote is in and everything the Coalition stands for is illegal now. If they are found holding supernaturals and experimenting on them, they are going to jail. They've been ordered to empty their facilities and release anyone they've been holding prisoner. Saul and Hannibal are not happy about it. None of the Gold Party members are. I have a feeling they are going to bogart the press conference."

Oh, sweet fuck. We'd done it. But this was just step one. Persephone was right. Changing beliefs was hard, if not impossible.

Getting this law passed was hard. Convincing the masses we weren't possessed by demons and working for Satan was going to be a lot harder.

And even if we convinced them we were born like this, we still had to address they fact that we could be dangerous if we wanted to be. We just needed to let them know that not all of us wanted to be.
