Chapter 9
Chapter
Nine
Cerran didn't have any idea what to do.
He knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to take Triton in one hand and Elowyn in the other and take them both to bed and roll around between them.
For hours at a time.
Probably not wise.
Probably not wise at all.
However, it was what he wanted.
Not only that, but he really believed now that this was the truth. A possibility. He had seen their energies twining together. Braiding together and forming this amazing cord of pure light.
He'd never done or seen anything like that before. He'd never heard of it—an omega that mated with two alphas.
But then again, he didn't know many alphas who made it with one another, and none who had been so public about it. He absolutely didn't know any alphas that had adopted a baby. Why couldn't Elowyn be theirs?
Why couldn't they take care of this amazing, gentle, kind, little dragon?
There was no reason, none at all. He was going to talk to Cain and make sure that that was the way it was.
He knocked on the seer's door, feeling very brave, and honestly very, very forward.
After all, Triton had no idea he was here, which made it very odd. He wasn't Triton's second or anything, but he was very used to taking orders.
The door opened, and Cain smiled, a soft chuckle sounding. "Well, I will be! Cerran, please come in. We were just about to have lunch."
We?
"Am I interrupting?"
"Oh no. In fact, I imagine that you're not interrupting in the least." Cain held the door open wider, and he could see a very familiar broad-shouldered figure sitting at the table.
Right there in Cain's sitting room. He sighed, then shook his head.
"Good afternoon, mate."
"Good afternoon, mate." Triton chuckled. "Who has the baby?"
"Elowyn." He'd offered to take the little one for a while. Honestly, Cerran had thought that Triton was out helping Durango and Reno with maneuvers. Obviously, he had been mistaken.
Triton didn't look the least bit surprised. He just nodded, smiling like he had a secret.
Cerran was incredibly tempted to pop him on the nose. Not hard enough to make him bleed or even dull his scales, but a little bit.
"Should I call down to the kitchen and have them bring more food?" Triton asked Cain.
Cain shook his head. "No. No. There will be plenty."
"Well, if you're sure…" He didn't want anyone to go without their food because he hadn't had the good graces to make an appointment.
"Of course, I'm sure. I'm the seer. It's my job." Cain had this shit-eating look on his face, and it was impossible to be mad at him. He was so obviously tickled at his own skill.
Cerran just about managed not to laugh, but in the end, he couldn't hold it in. He plopped down on the chair next to his lover and just chortled.
It was impossible not to be happy in this place. It was as if his fantasies had all come to life right here, right now in this space. His Triton. Elowyn. Baby Leilani—they were his home.
The whole thing was just simply everything he had ever wanted, if only he could find a way to put it together.
"I came to ask Cain," Triton started.
"About Elowyn, yes," he finished.
"Yes. I believe that he is our omega. I was just discussing this with Cain to see his position on the subject."
Cerran refused to hold his breath, because no matter what Cain said, he knew what he believed.
He believed that Elowyn was theirs.
Their mate.
Their omega.
Theirs to care for and to adore and to love. No question.
Even if Cain said that this was a terrible mistake. His heart knew better.
"My position is that if Elowyn was told that he would not be one alpha's mate, then he will not be one alpha's mate. Simple as that." Cain shrugged, his silver eyes alight with amusement. "That does not indicate he is meant to be alone."
Cain was on the same wavelength as they were. Cerran could see it.
Triton's shoulders relaxed. "Ah. Good. Good."
"Yes. Very good."
Cain's expression went serious. "Have the three of you dealt with what happened at the apartment then? I do intend to speak with Elowyn, assure myself he feels safe with you."
"I hope so, but naturally, we would like you to speak to him," Triton rumbled. "Just in case he fears telling us what he worries about."
"If you would, Seer," Cerran added.
"Of course." Cain cast his eyes on Triton. "I hope that you can heal here. You have given so much of yourself. You deserve to be happy."
Triton's eyes flashed bright with lightning. "I hope that is the case, Seer. I do not know. Some days, I feel as though I deserve whatever fate my old keep would deal to me for allowing my brothers to be lost."
"Bah." Cain surprised Cerran with his immediate scoff. "They knew the risks, they fought valiantly, and they died. Do not cheapen that by being a martyr."
Triton's eyes went wide. "I—I would never. They were heroic."
"And so were you. You saved twenty-one warriors and, more than that, Leilani." Cain's voice was soft, sure. "She was worth it, was she not?"
"She is the most wonderful thing I have ever seen." Triton reached out to him. "And I had already seen you."
Cerran's cheeks felt as if they were on fire, and he ducked his head, indescribably touched. "My love."
Cain cleared his throat. "Yes. Well. You see? I would happily let Elowyn join a family such as yours."
"And Elowyn wants to join with us." Triton's voice rang with truth.
"He does." Cerran nodded firmly.
"Then I wish you joy. Tea?" Cain stood, going to the kettle.
Triton's nose wrinkled, and Cerran fought the urge to laugh. "We'd love some."
"Lemon or milk?"
"Lemon," Triton pushed in, eyes narrowing at him.
His mate didn't understand the glory of milk and sugar in tea.
"Of course. Cerran, I know you want milk and sugar."
"I do, please."
"Naturally." Cain poured out. "And lemon for you, Triton. To match your sweet personality."
That made Triton laugh. "I am like honey."
"Thick and…"
Triton glared at him, and he clamped his lips shut.
Cain laughed lightly. "Yes, well, I will leave you two to sort that out."
"Thank you, Seer."
"You're welcome. Cookie?"
"Always." He had a sweet tooth that couldn't quit.
"Yes, please." Triton beamed.
"They would be better with milk in your tea, mate," Cerran teased.
"Mmhmm… Elowyn never puts milk in my tea."
Cerran gasped, hand to his heart. "You wound me."
"You are too tough in the chest muscles for that." Triton didn't sound like he was teasing at all, which was vaguely adorable.
Cain laughed again. "You are very dear. I do enjoy love."
"But you do not seek it yourself?" At Triton's look, he lowered his gaze. "I apologize, Seer. That was uncalled for."
"Nonsense. This is not your former keep. I have hope that one day my mate will find me, but so far…" Cain shrugged. "I will keep watching the stars for his name."
"That is the only thing you can do." Triton nodded. "This is a good cookie."
"Mmmm. The kitchen sent them."
"You should come see us," Cerran said. "Elowyn makes us cookies."
"Does he?" Cain grinned. "What kind? Anything I need to try desperately?"
"There's a white chocolate and craisin one." Cerran smacked his lips. "They are divine."
"Good to know. Next time I come over, I'll ask for some."
His phone beeped.
Going to the pool with Leilani.
Oh, now, that sounded like a lovely thing to do. To visit the pool with his daughter and get to see a mostly nude Elowyn. "Elowyn is taking Leilani swimming."
"Is he?" Triton grinned. "I like swimming."
I like the idea of nearly bare omega.
Triton's eyes glowed. Yes. Me too.
"Go on." Cain waved them away.
Cerran sucked down his tea, then rose, bowing. "Seer."
Triton followed. "Good day, Cain."
"You two as well."
Cain's laughter followed them out.
Triton grabbed his hand. "Are you excited?"
"I am, mate. Is that strange?"
"No." Triton squeezed. "This is part of our new start."
"With our omega." He smiled at his mate. "And our baby."
"I am proud of you, Cerran. Very proud. I love that you came to Cain today."
Cerran stared at him. "Did Cain teach you to use your words?"
"We did do a guided visualization."
Who was this new lighter-hearted warrior? Whoever he was, Cerran appreciated him.
They were going to have so much fun pursuing Elowyn.
Yes. I—I was ashamed at how I desired him, but now… Yes, now Triton was on the hunt.
