EPILOGUE
Will
H ayden's twins were supposed to be born at any moment. He hadn't told us their names or anything other than the fact they were twins because he wanted it to be a surprise. We'd decorated in a versatile jungle scene, so that wasn't even hopeful. To help us pass time while we waited to hear, John had suggested strolling the pet store.
"Gosh, Daddy. I didn't realize pet stores were so busy." The place was hopping, so we had to park in the back of the lot. As we approached the door, I saw people milling around outside. "What do you think is going on?" I asked.
He shrugged. "You have to see for yourself, boy."
As he said it, the woman in front of the door took a step to the side, and I saw a sign saying, Adoption Day!
I stopped, turning and clutched John's arm. "Do you see that, Daddy? It's an adoption day."
He tapped his finger against his chin and hummed. "Imagine that. I randomly suggested taking a ride to the pet store and wandering around, and it just so happens to be adoption day. Must be the universe speaking to you again." He winked.
I shook my head. "Whatever. I want to go see all the animals."
John slid an arm around my shoulders and kissed my temple. "Walk around and look, but you're only allowed one pet. I don't care if it's a boy or a girl, a cat or a dog, if it's young or old. Only one. You hear me, boy?" He growled into my ear.
I shivered as his hot breath ghosted over my ear, and if it wasn't for the fact I really wanted a pet so badly, I'd suggest we go wait for the text from Waylan about the babies in bed.
"Yes." Lucky for him, we'd started preparations for my new business. I didn't have a name yet because it was hard to put all this fabulousness into one package, but John had been teaching me all the different things I needed to know to successfully operate my own business.
My friends had jumped on board, thrilled at the news, and Julian had offered to design me a logo like he'd done for Roland. I'd taken him up on it, but like Roland, I also insisted that I pay him for his service.
"This is so exciting," I said, staring into a box of cute little kittens by the front door.
John's gaze followed mine, and he smiled. "I figured since I'll be home more, and your office will be in the house, it was a good time for us to expand our little family."
And that was the best thing that had happened recently. When I decided to be brave enough to pursue my dream, John had taken the plunge and given a month's notice to his company. Except for helping me and Roland, he didn't have plans of doing anything for a while but relaxing and babying me. Win-Win, in my opinion.
