ONE YEAR LATER
"Nick, what are youdoing out here?" I ask, standing on the patio with my hands resting on my hips.
He peeks over his shoulder from the fire pit area. He strokes a hand along the baby"s back.
"What? Little Nick loves the fire pit just like his mother. He just likes it at three in the morning."
I laugh as I sit beside my husband and son on the outdoor sofa. My lips press against his little fine jet-black hair just like his daddy's.
"Don't forget about his dad?" Nick says.
I chuckle, pressing a quick kiss against my husband's lips.
"That's it?" he asks.
"Yes, Nick. You're trying to get me pregnant again. I just had him three months ago."
"Can you blame me? Look how handsome our little guy is. He's got his mommy's chestnut eyes. And his daddy's cute face."
I roll my eyes. "Hopefully, our next child will be a girl whenever I'm ready to have baby number two. I want a mini me."
"Little Nick, I'll get you a brother or sister soon," he whispers in the baby's ear.
A tiny smile curls our son's lips. I don't dare tell my husband. He'll take that as a sign.
Being the Donna of the Pitucco crime family isn't bad at all. Especially when the other mafia wives and I get together, and I watch them torture packages. At first, I was a little apprehensive about torturing the women. But these women really didn't care that the men were married. They blatantly tried to destroy their marriages.
Being a mafia wife comes with a lot of perks, too. If I need medical supplies for my new research project, I sometimes deliver the threat personally. I try not to let the power go to my head. That can destroy a person, like it did to Norah and her father.
Sometimes it eats at me. I was never able to have my mother and best friends at my wedding reception, but it was for their protection.
Carmen and I found a cure for my mother's illness. We saved so many people like her whose lives would've been cut short.
My mother travels the world with her boyfriend, who she met in Portugal. Feels good to give my mother everything. She deserves to live out the rest of her life happily.
Who would've thought the woman who had given up on love would find it with the man she walked away from years ago?
I squeeze Nick"s hand.
"Are you all right, Kinsley?" Nick asks in a groggy tone. He's dosing off.
He's such an amazing father. He will always put his kids first. I love that about him. And he's such a hands-on dad.
I'm the luckiest woman in the world.
"I love you, Nick."
"Kinsley, baby. I love you too."
