Chapter 73

73

He was there, and he was alive, and he was safe. There was blood on him. Meyra fought panicking. She had made it this far. She wasn't going to freak out now.

"I finally have signal!" Dylan yelled. Dylan had driven. Meyra had tried to get Dylan's phone to work and the built-in phone on that stupid truck. But there hadn't been enough signal.

"I am so buying us satellite phones, baby. I promise." He wrapped his arms around her. "How did you get…Dylan?"

"I escaped out the back window. I was going to go to Sage's and get help for you. I didn't think I'd be able to move you myself. Since they drugged you."

"They didn't drug me. Idiots didn't put the patch on right. Half on my collar. Pulled right off." He was holding her and kissing her. Everywhere he could. "I…took them out. The ones I could. And then I came out here to find you."

"Bruce Tyler was here. He took me. Then he ran Dylan off the road and made me get out. He said he was rescuing me. And was a man on a mission with unfinished business. He took that man. The judge who did this. That's the judge's truck right there. I think, technically, we stole it."

"Nope. We merely used it on a daring rescue mission. That's my story and I am sticking to it," Dylan added, shivering. She didn't have on a coat.

"Where are those men?" There had been three that she had seen. But there had been at least two outside. And Mr. King and his friend. Katie's dad.

"How many are dead?"

"Two inside. Two are wounded. That King guy and the one called Kurt are still alive." And there was a look on his face that she would never forget. "Kurt was wearing my father's watch. He stole it from my dad's arm that night. I took it back."

"Some of them got away. I saw them leaving in two trucks, but I couldn't see who they were. It's not finished," Meyra said. It wasn't over yet. Not yet.

Brandt pulled her closer. "I need to go inside. Check on the two in there. I don't want them to die. They have answers people need."

Meyra wasn't letting him go by himself.

"Go. I'll stay here and watch for the calvary," Dylan said. "I…don't want to see any more dead men, honestly. Especially Katie's dad. I just can't ."

"Stay where I can see you through the window," Brandt ordered.

Meyra didn't want her cousin out there by herself. "Go. I'll watch if those buttholes come back. Go."
