13. Tessa

The sweet, sharp pleasure tightened inside me. All of my attention centered on where I could feel the delicious stretch of Adam filling me and his fingers teasing over my clit. I didn’t even recognize myself. I was begging, pleading, demanding.

Adam gave me everything I needed. Just then, he gave me the exact amount of pressure, and my pleasure burst through me, my mind going blank with it as I shuddered hard.

I felt his lips on my neck as he filled me once more with a slow, deep pump. I could feel the heat of his release filling me. We trembled together and then lay gasping beside each other, still joined.

I had no idea how much time had passed when I heard his low, gravelly voice. “I forgot a condom.”

I was stunned for a moment. I rolled slightly, angling to look over my shoulder. I could see his face in the dim light cast from a night-light beside the bed.

“I didn’t even think about it. It’s okay. I promise you don’t have to worry about anything with me. I’ve only been with—” I paused. “One person. And after I found out that he cheated on me, I made sure everything was okay. Also, I’m on the pill.”

My heart sped up in an unsteady, nervous beat. Because the whole time I’d been with Rich, he didn’t want me to be on birth control. I’d hid my pills from him. I’d actually kept them in my office at work. Just saying it out loud set anxiety kicking up like a storm in my chest.

Adam’s eyes held mine in the barely-there light. “Of course I trust you. Considering that I’ve literally never had sex without a condom in my life until right this minute, I promise we’re okay. I should’ve remembered, and I’m sorry I didn’t.”

We moved at the same time, and he slipped out of me so I could roll over to face him. “You don’t have anything to apologize for. We’re both responsible, and we both forgot.”

“Okay,” he said softly. He smoothed my tangled hair away from my cheek, then leaned close to give me a lingering kiss.

After he drew away, we rested on the pillows, facing each other. Beyond how relaxed I felt, Adam had given me a gift I doubted he could ever understand.

Having never had an orgasm with anyone other than myself, I had wondered if I would ever be able to relax and trust someone enough. He’d shown me that was possible. Maybe this was a small thing that would be a blip in my life, but I would always cherish it. It would be a little memory I kept tucked away.

“What are you thinking?” His low rumbling voice created a subtle vibration inside me.

Our legs were twined together. A little giggle slipped out.

“What’s so funny?”

I traced a lazy pattern through the dusting of hair on his chest. “I don’t know. This isn’t what I expected.”

“What did you expect?” he asked.

I took a breath, trying to ease the sneaky uncertainty that started to slither through me.

“I don’t know. Honestly, I just wanted a kiss. This was a lot more than I bargained for.”

Adam’s fingers were playing with the ends of my curls, and I felt the flat of his thumb smooth across my collarbone. “This was a lot more than I bargained for too.”

“What are we going to do now?”
