Chapter 13
Chapter
Thirteen
M organ hummed, rocking Avery in the latest big comfy chair, which had arrived the day before in their bedroom.
"Babe? Is this your chair?" he'd asked Wade.
"Nope. Is it Max's?"
"No."
But it fit his butt perfectly, and he could hold Avery and doze while he fed his son and not worry they would fall out. Ava had a perch not too far away, and she was asleep, one foot up, the other grasping the perch, her head bobbing.
"Mmmm. Morning, love. Did Daniel bring you the bottle?"
"As if you would sleep through another alpha in your bedroom. Stormy did."
"Ah." Wade chuckled, the sound low and amused. "He's something, hmm?"
"He is." Morgan liked the little dragon a lot, and he appreciated being taught how to care for the baby. He had a feeling that Stormy would disappear when the wind came from a different direction, a la Mary Poppins. But for now, he felt as though he had a friend.
"What are your plans for the day?" he asked Wade.
"Admiring you. Loving on you and our son. And Daniel has a new hallway he wants me to help explore."
"Ah." The house seemed to be settling. Food was appearing. Things were fine. But oh, he wanted to take his son outside and have fresh air and sunshine.
So Daniel and Wade were always looking for a way outside.
"I think today will be the day, love," Wade told him.
"Do you?" Wade hadn't said that before, so this was new.
"I do. I don't know why. And something Stormy said yesterday made me think the same thing. Like that he knows."
"I hope so." Hope did spring eternal, and it wasn't that they'd been trapped in the house for any time, given their existence, but they needed to be able to go outside.
"I think it will be fine. Will you be all right?"
"Promise me you'll come back to us?"
"I absolutely will. We've been doing the rope-tying thing, as well as marking the hallways and leaving trails of the proverbial breadcrumbs. Diamonds from the stash."
"Okay. You be careful. We need you." He lifted his face for a long kiss. "Very much."
"I love you. I'll be back to cuddle." Wade kissed him, then smooched Avery on the head.
"I love you. Find us our sunshine, love. I want our son to be able to run in the grass."
"I do too." With a little shower of sparks, Wade was gone.
"Sweet mate." He gazed down at Avery. "He's working hard for you."
And Morgan understood.
They would move heaven and earth together to give their son everything he needed.
Wade blinked. "Is that the front door?"
"I think so, yeah." Daniel stood next to him. They'd both tied ropes around their waists, and Wade had been the one to go down the last hallway, but he'd come out at the end, and Daniel was standing there in front of a door.
"Like the actual front door?"
Daniel nodded. "I totally think so."
"Did the house spin around?"
"I have no idea. You think something will be out there?" Wade's heart was racing, but did he dare get his hopes up?
"Why would it bring us here otherwise." But Daniel stared at the door like it was a snake that would bite.
"I'll try it." What the fuck? "Hold my rope."
"For all the good it did us this time…"
"I know, but?—"
BANG BANG BANG.
Fuck.
He strode to the door and threw it open, ready to just blast whoever it was. That was a scary damn knock.
A blue-haired version of Morgan stood there, John Lennon glasses on his nose. "I knew it was the house!"
"Look at you!" Another, taller version of Morgan clapped the blue-haired one on the shoulder.
Max and Marcus.
"Wade! You made it." Then Max looked at Daniel and frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Daniel snorted. "How do you know I'm not the one who mated your brother?"
Marcus rolled his eyes. "Don't be stupid. That's the wrong brother. Where's Morgan? Is everything all right?"
"He's with the baby in the nursery."
Max's jaw dropped. "Wow. You move fast."
"We've been trapped in the house forever."
"Don't exaggerate. I've only been in Lunastra seven months," Max said.
"Lun-where? Where are you?" He peered out. "Why is it summer?"
"Because these are the dragonlands, my brother. Come on, Daniel. Wade, go get Morgan."
He turned, shocked when a staircase to go up to the new level of the house was right behind him. "Morgan!" He raced up the stairs. "Morgan!"
"Wade?" He heard Morgan walking above him. "Mate, I can't find Stormy! Where are you?"
He met Morgan on the landing. He was holding Avery and looking so confused. "I bet Stormy couldn't come here, love."
"What?"
He lifted his mate and baby into his arms and ran back downstairs, full tilt.
"Wade! Where are we? What are you doing?" Morgan's panic was razor-sharp, fierce.
"Shhh. It will be okay. I have a surprise for you." He took Morgan right out the front door, trusting Max and Marcus.
Morgan gasped, and Avery stretched out, soaking up the sunlight. "You found a way out!"
"We did. And look who's here!"
Max bounded over to hug Morgan as soon as Wade put him down. "Brother! Tell me you didn't toss my couch."
"No. It's god-awful but it has great butt grooves." Morgan was beaming.
"Is this my nephew?" That wasn't Marcus or Max.
That was a voice he'd listened to his entire life.
"Wendy." Morgan beamed. "I'd love you all to meet Avery."
"Welcome to the family, Avery."
Wade grabbed his sister. "You too?"
"Yep. My apartment and all."
"Damn." His whole family in one place. Even Daniel. He put an arm around Morgan, then looked to the sky, where half a dozen dragons swooped and played, blowing flame and ice. "So tell us about these dragonlands…"
