TIL DEATH GLOSSARY

Champs-élysées (French): One of the world's most famous commercial streets, connecting the Arc de Triomphe with the Place de la Concorde in Paris. (lit. "Elysian Fields," a paradise in Greek mythology.)
Chapelle Saint-Pierre (French): An ancient Romanesque chapel in Villefranche dedicated to Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen, which was entirely restored and decorated by the “prince of poets,” Jean Cocteau.
Connard (French): Asshole (expletive).
Je t'aime comme un fou (French): “I love you like crazy.”
Magnum opus (Latin): “Great work” (the most important work of a writer/artist’s career).
Merci (French): Thank you.
Mon chou (French): A term of endearment that is used to refer to someone you love (lit. My cabbage, but Simon chooses to interpret it as choux à la crème - a sweet little murder baby cream puff).
Oui (French): Yes.
Putain (French): Fuck (expletive).
Putain de bordel de merde (French): For fuck’s sake to the max (lit. Shit brothel whore).
Quai Courbet (French): “Quai” is riverside road, and Gustave Courbet was a French painter who led the Realism movement in 19th-century French painting.
Raison d’être (French): Essentially, one’s reason/purpose for existence.
Rue Obscure (French): A walled passageway in Villefranche that had originally been a route for soldiers to travel from the seafront to the village, but in the centuries since, has been turned into a very sexy tunnel (thanks to development above).
Stinkstiefel (German): Surly bastard.
Tragaleche… mi putito (Slutty Spanish—specifically, Argentinian Spanish): Wolfy’s essentially telling “his whore” to swallow his cum like milk.
Villefranche-sur-Mer (French): (The resort town of Villefranche) on the sea.
