Stopping at Niko's door, I lean against the frame. After laying on the blanket and trying to find all the different constellations, we finally packed up and left the waterfall. When I had first heard of the waterfall from a Phoenix in one of my classes, I didn't think much of it, until earlier today when I was trying to find a place where Niko and I could be alone. The game is coming up soon, so I need you all to start thinking about that. Invite all the students you know, your families. Hell, even the faculty. The more people that show up, the better."

Coach gives us some more details about when it'll happen, and all I can picture is Niko in the stands cheering me on like he did the day of the scrimmage. Hmm. I wonder if I can get him to wear one of my jerseys. Glancing up, I lock eyes with Coach, and I deflate. Yeah, he probably won't want to wear my jersey because then his dad will have a million and one questions for us.

"Alright, I'll see you guys tomorrow for a full practice. Make sure you're on time."

Coach walks back into his office and leaves us alone again in the weight room.

"How does it feel to be with the coach's son?" Sam jokes, not knowing how much it actually sucks for me.

"Man, I hate it. I want to tell everyone he's mine, but Niko's so worried about what his dad will think."

"Because you're a human?"

"No, well… Shit is that why he's worried?"

It's plausible. Niko disliked me at the beginning because I'm a human. What if that's the true reason he wants this to be kept a secret? What if his dad doesn't want him to be with humans either? Well, fuck. I didn't see that coming.

"I was kidding, King. I doubt that's it. But maybe talk to him." He shrugs, picking his bag up off the floor.

"Yeah, I will."

But truthfully, I don't know if I will. The non-monster thing has always been a sore subject between the two of us. And if he's trying to keep us a secret because of that? I won't be able to handle it. I love him too much.

Standing up, I close my eyes and sigh heavily. The grumpy Gorgon got under my skin and made me fall in love with him. I'm not surprised, though. I can only hope he feels the same.
