Chapter Two

Subject: Fiona and Louie

Bo, hi! We met at karaoke night a few months back with Fiona and Louie. Anyway, since you’re Louie’s best man and I’m Fi’s maid of honor, I figured I’d reach out. You probably already know this, but they’re going for a Christmas Eve wedding. That means there’s lots of planning to be done, but I don’t know if you heard how busy the happy couple is, so Fi asked me to help plan it all and suggested we work together so that’s how I got your email. What do you say, want to help me make their wedding dreams come true?

Dear Izzy,

I would do anything for Louie, so I guess you can count me in. But I do work long hours and I am in New York, so we’ll have to stick to email. I can have my assistant Mirna make calls for us. Send me over whatever you need.

Sincerely,

Bo Grant

Dearest Bo,

Your assistant? No, no, no, that won’t do. If this wedding is going to be special, it needs to be planned at the hands of people who know Fiona and Louie. I know you don’t get the whole love thing, but this needs to be about love, planned with love and for love. See what I’m saying?

Izzy Monroe

P.S. Sorry, but this whole formal email thing seems a little stuffy. We’re going to be friends-in-law soon, so maybe we can act like it.

Izzy,

Friends-in-law? What is that? Have you been drinking?

Sincerely,

Bo Grant

Oh, Bo, you’re funny. You know what I mean. So do you want to handle the contracts with the vendors? I have several that need to be looked over. That seems right up your alley. What do you say?

That I can do. Send them over.

You dropped the formalities in our last email… I noticed!

All the contracts have been returned; thanks for your help. The venue is handling rentals and Fi already has her dress. Louie’s back in town next week and will be going for a fitting. Do you need a fitting? You should get that done. The attire is important, you know. We want to make sure everyone looks good for the pictures.

Did I ever give you reason to believe I thought attire wasn’t important no matter the occasion? Maybe you forgot but when we met at the bar I was wearing nice, clean cut jeans and a buttoned down shirt. You can take a deep breath, I have my suit already fitted and hanging in my closet. Are we done with the planning now?

Bo

P.S. I can be informal, too.

Subject: Wedding planning is never done

Are we done? Ha! See how I changed the subject… now you won’t forget. Let’s see, consulting my handy wedding planning checklist… we’re doing good. Honeymoon’s booked already. They have an officiant. Save-the-dates went out. You got yours, right?

Of course. You do know I have actual work to do, so maybe you can just tell me what you need from me?

You know what, I had Mirna get me a checklist, too. So now I know what’s up. Let me ask you, have you sent out invitations? I didn’t get mine in the mail yet. Have they written their vows?

I can ask questions, too!

You know when we met I doubted this, but you’re proving to be a fun one, Mr. Grant. Yes, those things are all accounted for. You should see your invitation in the mail any day now. We need to start brainstorming favors and gift bags. Then when you get here we can put them together. When exactly will you be coming into town?

My assistant is looking at my calendar now, so I’ll get back to you on that. Remember, I work, as I explained. As for favors I’m good with anything. Louie likes those little bottles of alcohol whenever he travels, says they make him feel like a giant. Maybe we can get those?

First of all, it’s the holiday season, surely, you can get away from the office. No one does business this late in the game. Second, we cannot give out little bottles of alcohol as you put it. They need to be selected with love and care. How about seed packets?

So people can grow their own love? Hey, that’s not a bad idea. Here, my assistant found a few, I’m attaching pictures.

By the way, the corporate world never sleeps. Holidays included.

Subject: Playlists

I ordered the favors. Thank Mirna for me for finding them. She’s good. You should give her a raise. Next: playlists. We have to give the DJ song ideas for the five big moments. We also have to give him a do-not-play list. I’ll await song ideas for both lists.

You do know I’m a man, right? I don’t speak wedding. What are the five big moments?

Subectj: Re: Playlists

Forget it. I took care of it. Maybe I even asked the DJ to give us a karaoke moment so we can relive the last time you were in town and you can actually sing this time. Kidding, you can relax! Now, speaking of, we just need to get you into town. When will you be arriving? I can pick you up from the airport… I assume you’re flying in. Send me the details.

No, thanks. I’ll handle my own transportation. I’ll be coming into town sometime next week and we’ve cleared my schedule through the end of the year. I figured besides the wedding, it’ll be my big vacation this year since I haven’t taken one yet.

Never would I have guessed you’d see coming to our little town as a vacation. Lucky us, you’re gracing us with your presence for quite a while. I’ll be sure to inform the town crier so your arrival can herald in the season. I really don’t mind picking you up, we can talk about the wedding, so just send me the details if you change your mind.

Subject: Re: Playlists

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not my idea of a vacation, but it can never be said I’m a lousy friend. As for you picking me up, really, it’s okay. I enjoy my quiet time. I’ll call you once I’ve settled in. And please don’t ask where I’m staying, I do like my peace and quiet, as I said. Remember, this is part vacation for me.

Sincerest regards,

Bo Grant
