Chapter 29

29

" D estiny, Faith?" David said. "Could you come back in?"

They walked back into the room and the negative energy that had greeted them before was now gone. The committee members were all smiles and the project manager explained that their bid had been accepted. The contract would be drawn up and signed next week. He welcomed them to the team and each committee member shook their hands and expressed how excited they were to see Fields of Green's vision come to life.

David walked them to the door. "Gloria's handling of the bid will not go unnoticed," he said quietly. "One perk of working with this particular corporation is that when they break ground on new properties they will reach out to you for input and maybe even offer you upcoming jobs."

Faith and Destiny exchanged a look. "Wow, that would be awesome."

David nodded. "You deserved to win this bid," he said. "But you need to prepare for what that will bring." He smiled. "Fields of Green is going to be busy."

They both returned his smile. "Thanks, David," Destiny said.

As they walked out of the conference room Faith inhaled deeply as they walked by Gloria. "Ah," she said. "I love the smell of dirt and sweat, don't you, babe?"

"It smells like money," Destiny replied, giving Gloria a sarcastic smile.

They walked out of the building and Faith stole a glance at Destiny. "We won the bid," she said, her eyes widening. "Be cool," she mumbled.

Destiny nodded as their steps quickened. "We won!" she squealed quietly. "Stay cool, stay cool."

When they reached the front of the truck, Faith turned to face Destiny. "We won the bid!" she yelled, jumping into Destiny's arms.

They hugged each other tightly as they bounced up and down.

"We have to celebrate," Faith said once they got back into the truck.

"Let's have all our people meet at your shop," Destiny said, taking out her phone. "I'll text Monica to give everyone the location and to lock up."

"I'm texting Amy and Mark to tell them we'll be there soon. We've got to stop by the store and buy a bunch of beer."

Destiny waited for Faith to put down her phone. "We did it, babe," she said, leaning over the console. Their lips met in a fierce yet happy kiss.

"I love you so much," Faith said, breathing heavily.

"You've made me so happy," Destiny said with tears in her eyes. "I get to do all of this with you! You're the love of my life, my soulmate, my everything, and we're doing this together."

Faith chuckled. "That's some list."

"I didn't want to leave anything out."

"You are my destiny," Faith said softly.

Destiny could see tears in Faith's eyes. She leaned in and their lips met in a poignant kiss full of emotion, redemption, and love.

She slowly pulled away and smiled. "I can't wait to get you home."

"Mmm," Faith murmured, raising one eyebrow. "We're getting lucky tonight."

Destiny laughed and buckled her seatbelt. "We already are."

They stopped by the store and bought beer, two bottles of champagne, and a few snacks for their impromptu celebration.

"Wow," Faith said, when her shop came into view. "My parking lot is almost full."

Destiny looked over at Faith and grinned. "Those are my three trucks and Monica's car."

"I love it," Faith said.

"Fields of Green," Destiny said softly. "Is this a dream coming true?"

"Oh, babe." Faith reached for her hand. "We have a lot of dreams that are going to come true."

Destiny didn't know her heart could feel this full. Tears stung her eyes once again.

Faith glanced over at her and stopped the truck before she pulled around to the back of the building. "It's okay, baby. I feel it, too."

Destiny unbuckled her seat belt, leaned over, and embraced Faith. "I love you," she said, pulling back and kissing Faith softly.

"I love you."

Destiny nodded and sat back in her seat as Faith put the truck in gear and pulled around to the back of the building. She backed the truck into the shop where several people were standing around talking.

Faith lowered the tailgate and set the beer down while Destiny brought the champagne and cups with her.

"Let me help," Monica said, walking up from the office.

Once everything was laid out on the tailgate, Destiny gazed around the shop. "Is everyone here?"

"I think so," Amy said. "I locked the front door. Give us the news."

Destiny glanced at Faith and nodded.

"Has everyone introduced themselves?" Faith asked. "I know I haven't met all of Destiny's workers, but I will."

"Monica and I introduced everyone," Mark said.

"Great." Faith looked over at Destiny and smiled. "You are all aware that Destiny and I joined forces and bid on a big project." She paused. "Yeah, well…" she hesitated.

"We won!" Destiny yelled, popping the cork on one of the bottles of champagne.

The crowd cheered as Faith opened the other bottle. Cups were passed around and Destiny and Faith made their way around the space until everyone had a glass.

"You go first," Faith said.

Destiny raised her glass. "We have a new company name for this project. Here's to Fields of Green."

Their co-workers cheered and everyone sipped.

Faith raised her glass. "To dreams coming true." Destiny clinked her glass to Faith's and they both drank.

"Let's celebrate!" Mark said, opening the cases of beer.

"Congrats," Amy said, walking over to where Destiny and Faith stood away from the crowd.

"We celebrate today, but the big work is about to begin," Faith said.

"We can do it," Monica said, joining them. "I guess this is the end of landscape wars."

Destiny laughed. "Well…" She looked over at Faith.

"Maybe landscape wars are alive and well," Faith said. "We definitely have an enemy."

"Let me guess," Amy said. "Gloria."

"I really hope we've seen the last of her," Destiny said. "But I doubt it."

"We're in the big time now," Faith said playfully. "We can handle her."

Everyone laughed as the party began. Destiny and Faith met the workers they didn't know from each of their respective companies as they made their way through the crowd.

"Uh, hey," Faith said, getting everyone's attention. "I know my teams are aware that it's my birthday tomorrow and we're having a party."

Faith's workers whooped and hollered.

"I hope all of you will join us. There's going to be karaoke and all kinds of fun. Don't worry, Destiny is in charge. She's the fun one."

There were several chuckles and Faith continued. "I want to get to know the workers from The Green Thumb," she said. "I hear they have a fantastic boss."

Destiny grinned as Faith put her arm around her.

"Y'all have fun," Destiny said. "We'll have plenty to do on Monday, but now let's celebrate."

Destiny could feel Faith next to her and smiled. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw the sweetest sight. Faith's face was relaxed in sleep. The corners of her mouth were almost turned up in a smile.

Destiny was on her side with her arm resting on Faith's stomach. She thought back to last night and the celebration after they won the bid. All of their workers came together and seemed to get along. It was a good start.

After everyone left they ordered food, like they had done most Friday nights, and the dinner conversation revolved around the project. They bounced around ideas of which teams should work on what parts of the project, but they stopped to take in the sunset together.

Destiny meant what she said to Faith in the emotional moments after they'd won the bid. Faith was everything to her and they had much to look forward to.

She smiled as she gazed at Faith again. They had celebrated together long into the night, but why not start the day the way yesterday had ended. "Let's make your birthday as special as you are," she whispered.

Destiny slowly moved over Faith and kissed between her breasts. She softly feathered kisses down Faith's stomach as she started to stir.

"Mmm," Faith murmured, her voice heavy with sleep.

Destiny slowly ran her tongue from hip to hip across Faith's lower abs. She knew this was one way to drive Faith wild.

"Oh!" Faith exclaimed. Her hand reached for Destiny and Faith's fingers tangled in her hair.

Destiny continued to kiss lower and smiled as Faith spread her legs wider. She didn't waste any time and ran her tongue from Faith's entrance through her folds and around her clit. "My, oh my," Destiny murmured. "Someone is wet."

Faith moaned, raising her hips.

Destiny continued to explore Faith's wetness with her tongue. It didn't take long for her to wake up and be present in the moment.

"Oh God, babe," Faith groaned.

Destiny loved these quiet moans and groans almost as much as she loved Faith. At times being together again felt surreal, but Destiny knew how it felt to be without Faith. There was no way she would ever let that happen again.

Another more intense moan from Faith brought Destiny back to this moment. She could hear and feel Faith's now labored breathing and slipped one arm under Faith's leg, reaching for her hand splayed on the bed. Their fingers intertwined and Destiny squeezed Faith's hand as she sucked Faith into her mouth.

Destiny's tongue moved with purpose and brought Faith over the edge. Quick gasps of breath were the only noise in the room until Faith's hips fell back on the bed.

Destiny raised her head and looked into Faith's euphoric face. "Happy birthday, baby."

"God!" Faith groaned loudly. She chuckled as Destiny rested her head on Faith's stomach.

"Good morning," Faith finally said in an almost normal voice.

"Mmm," Destiny murmured. "It is."

"Was that my birthday present?"

Destiny raised up and settled next to Faith, propping her head on her hand. She lazily rested her leg over Faith's and smiled at her. "That was just the start of your birthday."

"It's already the best birthday ever because I woke up with you, well, with you between my legs." Faith giggled.

"I hope that was all right," Destiny said. "If you haven't noticed, I'm having trouble keeping my hands off of you…and my mouth."

"I know the perfect birthday gift you could give me," Faith said with raised eyebrows.

"Oh yeah?" Destiny grinned. "What's that?"

"Move in with me," Faith said with a serious face.

Destiny was not expecting that. Her eyebrows flew up her forehead. "Really?"

Faith nodded. "Move in with me, Des. You're here most of the time anyway."

"I love being here with you," Destiny said. A smile grew on her face. "Do you think the tiny house is big enough for both of us?"

"We can live wherever you want," Faith said. "I just don't want to be without you ever again."

Destiny closed her eyes, barely able to contain her excitement. She opened them and grinned at Faith. "I'd love to move in here with you!"

Faith grabbed Destiny's face and kissed her hard. "Now that's a birthday present. Woo hoo!" she yelled at the ceiling.

Destiny laughed at her enthusiasm. "I do have an actual birthday present for you, but I'm not giving it to you until tomorrow."

"Okay," Faith said, nodding. "Is this part of why you asked to spend tonight with me? Because you had something special for me the next day?"

"That's right," Destiny said. "We have the party tonight, so your special gift has to wait until tomorrow."

"I have my special gift right here," Faith said, caressing Destiny's cheek.

"Okay, birthday girl." Destiny sat up. "What do you want for breakfast? I'm cooking and I made sure we have all of your favorites here."

"Hmm," Faith murmured, raising her brows. "I know what I want first." She raised up, pushed Destiny down on the bed, and hopped on top of her.

Laughter filled the room, followed by heated kisses and more very pleased moans.
