Chapter One

Hayden

Secrets.

Lies.

Death.

It's not an easy place working undercover for the Shifters League of Protection, also known as the S.L.P. Doing this for five years now, I have never let anything, or anyone stand in my way. I got the job done and I didn't dare let anything come from it. If I did, I would end up getting exposed and everything would end up crashing straight down and it would be the end of everything as I knew it.

But now there is her.

The temptation is so forbidden that if I touch her, she will be the death of me.

"The S.L.P. is hot on our trail right now and we need to throw them off of our track." The leader of the rebellion group, Andrew Victor, murmurs as he is looking practically through all of us, the power radiating off of him in waves, "I want you to keep a good eye on your men right now because I have a bad feeling that we are dealing with some traitors in our midst. I need to find out who they are."

Andrew Victor has been fighting the S.L.P. for as long as I can remember, long before I even joined undercover for the group. He is a strict ruler, thinking that shifters should be the dominant breed and there is absolutely no way that this whole entire piece would end up coming right down. The S.L.P. has been trying to nab him for years but is ultimately failing.

His daughter on the other hand… She is a vixen.

Nobody dares to touch her based on the fact that she is Andrew's daughter, and he might just try to kill them. I suppose I can't blame him, but I feel this odd connection to her, one that drives out the beast inside of me that is longing to get much closer. I don't know if it is going to be okay but all I can think about is how close I want to be to her.

How I want to move towards her and take her in front of everyone.

She is sitting next to Andrew, the prim and proper woman that she has become as she is just paying full attention to her father. Her long, curly red hair that is normally down is in a messy bun, showing off her high cheekbones and delicate features. The main part of her that draws me in is her beautiful blue eyes that sparkle like sapphires.

All I can think about is what I want to do to her. How I want those lips wrapped around my cock and how I want to be pounding inside of her. I don't want to do anything about it besides precisely that, but I do keep asking myself what it was going to take to completely make sure that we are one.

That I will get to have her.

When she looks up again, her eyes lock with mine and it's like nothing that I have ever seen before. I see the fire burning in her eyes that tells me that she desires me just as much as I do. I want to bring her much closer to me, longing to do whatever I could to her. I'd like to do a lot more but it's pretty clear to me that I'm going to be screwed if I end up getting into the crossfires of whatever she is doing right now.

That would be the best thing.

"I think that is going to wrap the meeting for tonight." Andrew tells everyone again, shaking his head now, "Make sure to patrol the area and don't let anyone in. I know those bastards are sniffing to come in here and we're not going to let it happen, do you understand that? If I find out anyone has screwed us over, they will be dead."

After he says his peace, everyone is walking away from the table, just going back to do their job. I don't know what I'm going to do about it, I just really want to do the right thing because, after everything that I have been through right now, I don't know what is going to come from it. I just want to do the right thing and get this job done.

It has already taken me a lot longer than expected.

"Don't leave, Hayden." Andrew suddenly speaks up, making me stiff momentarily because I didn't expect him to talk to me, "I want to speak with you about something."

I really don't know what he is going to say to me but a part of me is worried that maybe he has caught on. I don't want to end up being screwed over at that moment because if I give anything away, then I'm just as bad as he is. He is a bad man who has killed so many people, but I can't get to him this way even if I wanted to. I have to do the right thing.

I have to make sure that we're going to be fine.

That we will not be caught.

I want to be close to her though.

When I look at Claire for a brief moment, I wonder if I'm going to be able to get this done. After everything that I have been through so far, it's like nothing I have ever experienced, and it is driving me crazy. I wish to be close to those that I care about, longing to be near her when I shouldn't. She has managed to worm her way into my heart from all the years that we have been together now.

That is all that I have figured out so far.

I have to do this the right way.

It is the only way to deal with this.

"What is going on, Andrew?" I ask him finally, settling myself in my seat, "I assume it's not good by the look on your face. Did something happen?"

He sighs and shakes his head, looking like he is going to go nuts, "I don't know what we're going to do here, Hayden. Unfortunately, I do know that there is a traitor near, and I need to find him or her. I need to make sure that nothing else goes out or we will lose all of this. I can't give up on anything like that because it would end up screwing me."

Honestly, it's clear to me that there's nothing else that I can say to him.

I am the mole, but he won't know that.

"I had a feeling that there was, and I have been keeping an eye on everyone." I assure him finally, hoping that he is going to believe me, "I don't know if we're going to find them, but I do know that I'm not going to let them win, Andrew. I will make sure that when I find the mole, they will be disposed of."

"Don't do that." He corrects me, a coldness in his tone that makes me a little afraid, "I want to deal with them personally. Bring them to me."

I knew what that meant and it's not the best thing.
