He'd arrived too late. Hellfire consumed Sadie's apartment. Cain stood on the sidewalk with his hands hidden in his pockets but looked up at his brother's approach.

"What did you do?" Lucien growled.

"She received another invitation from The Society. I tried to save her because you weren't here. You might have her heart, but make no mistake, you aren't the only one who cares for her."

Lucien raised his fist, ready to knock his brother into the next realm.

"If you care about Sadie, join me. Help me free her. Help me ascend the throne."

Lucien knew such a bargain was a mistake, but he was desperate. Cain stroked his chin and chuckled darkly as he considered the offer.

"What's in it for me?"

"I will make your death as painless as possible."

"No," he said flatly.

"You don't have a choice. I will allow your children to flourish on Earth and help them if they should ever ask as long as it's within my power."

"Done."

Thunder clapped in the sky as they shook hands. Their bargain had been struck.

"And you will help me get my son back."

"Your daughter..."
