CHAPTER 18
GROMNYR
T he sounds of the Federation cannons firing upon us are like a sweet symphony. Since their betrayal, my life has had one goal and one goal only: Revenge.
Now that I stare into Claire's eyes, I realize I have a new goal in life.
Starting a family.
For the first time, there's more to me than vengeance and bloodlust and death. There's the opposite. Life. Love. Hope . With this smart, sassy, beautiful little human I could leave this all behind and start fresh.
There's a soul connection I feel with her that goes deeper than words can describe. I know she feels it, too. When our eyes meet I feel a spark. Our souls are bonded.
I want to tell her all of this and more, but there's no time. My vessel is rocked by another explosion. The Federation must've brought the big guns to my door.
Time for me to step up.
I pull my mate to her feet and pull my pants back up. I grab her hand and lead her towards the bridge, my human still naked, her inner thighs still glistening with the proof of our union.
I find my crew in disarray. Our shields are damaged, our engine struggling. A barrage of plasma shots rain down upon us. One hits our starboard cannon directly, and it explodes in a fiery ball.
Smoke seeps into the bridge as the entire ship groans and rattles. Alarms blare as the crew shouts.
"Retreat," I bark at my navigation officer. "We'll live to fight another day."
"The engine can't jump," my officer says, his gruff voice laced with fear. "She's overheating!"
"I've got this."
All of us turn towards Claire. She has her hands on her hips, standing up proudly, her chest jutting out.
"Point me towards the engine, and I'll get her running smoothly," she says.
"Uhm, that way," the navigation officer points.
She turns towards me, stands on the tips of her toes and kisses my cheek. "Be back in a second."
