Epilogue

Luke

Ican't stop licking my mark on her neck. Even as she sleeps soundly between us, I have to lean in and lick it again. As I lean back to admire the red mark from my bite, Owen leans in and licks his own mark, making our mate roll on her side and wiggle her ass closer to my dick. I expect my wolf to snarl at his claim on her, but he hardly responds, content and at peace that our mate allowed us to claim her tonight. It's been three days since she stopped holding back and refusing to believe I love her, and each day is better than the last.

Our bond is one thing, my love for her another. She has as much control over the bond as I do, but my love for her…that's something neither of us can control or deny. I love her more than anything.

"Do you smell that?" I smile at Owen's question knowing exactly what he's talking about.

"If this one's yours, I get her all to myself next heat."

He laughs at my response. "Selfish prick." A huff of a laugh leaves me as I push the hair from her face. To think I almost let her fool me into thinking I meant nothing to her. My heart clenches.

"We need to go see Jude." My eyes raise from our resting mate to my brother, not liking his tone.

"Why's that?" His stern expression leaves me with a tension I don't like.

"The coven will need us, and we will need the Shadow Falls pack on our side."

"Our side of what?"

Owen swallows thickly. "A faction is growing, wanting to challenge the Authority."

I suppress my growl, only to prevent the noise from waking our mate. I push my words through clenched teeth. "We will not go against the Authority." How could he possibly think that would be acceptable? With our mate at our side, I won't let any danger come to her.

"I don't want to and neither do they, but a rebellion has started." I look down at our mate, listening to my brother as his words hit me with a force that has my wolf snarling with rage. "Anyone not on their side is seen as an enemy."

"Who would be stupid enough to challenge the Authority? To challenge the covens? They dare to challenge us?"

"A select few." I sit back against the headboard, feeling confident that this won't be an issue.

"Luke"—my eyes find his—"the dragons are on their side." My heart stops and my blood runs cold.

"Are you sure?" No one has heard from the dragons in nearly a hundred years. He nods his head, resigned to the idea of going to war. I clench my fists, not wanting to be a part of anything that could hurt our mate.

"You're right." I nod my head. "We'll need the numbers." My body chills as my eyes find his. "You think it will mean war?"

His eyes fall to our sleeping mate. "I hope that's not the case, but whether or not there will be war, the dragons are coming. Something brought them out, and according to the coven, it involves a mate."
