Chapter 2

Lincoln

Someone is after me, but I don’t know who it is. I’m trying to figure it out though because I know that my life could be in danger and if I let them get to me, it would all be ruined. I hate even thinking about it because if someone bad takes over the country, I am almost scared of what that could mean. I don’t even want to think about it in that sense because I have lost so much due to these vile bastards, and I know there is no way in hell that I’m going to allow him to screw me over anymore. I mean, of course, I couldn’t be completely sure about who it could be, but I do have my suspicions.

“Hey.” My best friend and Beta, Lauren, murmurs as he raises an eyebrow at me, “is everything okay? You have been acting a little weirder than usual.”

I just nod and hope that I don’t sound too nervous, “yes, I am fine. I have just been thinking about going and talking to someone about this feeling I’m having. I don’t know who to trust though.”

He raises an eyebrow at me once again like he doesn’t understand what I mean, “what are you talking about? Is everything okay?”

I just purse my lips and shake my head, “honestly, I don’t know. It’s pretty obvious to me now that someone is after me and I can’t be completely certain that I will be able to get rid of them. It’s becoming more and more obvious to me that they are going to try to kill me, but I can’t figure out who they are. I’d like to think nobody would do that to me, but I have a lot of enemies. You know this.”

I see a shift in his eyes that is a bit strange, but I try not to ponder over it, “I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t know, Lincoln, do you think you might just be overreacting? No one is going to attack you here when they know that you are heavily guarded. It would be a suicide mission.”

I’d like to hope so, but I don’t know.

“I don’t know.” I admit to him, running my fingers through my hair, “I do think I need help. Someone with the power of vision. I have been hearing about this woman who can see things. Maybe she can help me.”

“I don’t know if that’ll do you any good.” Lauren tries to tell me, shaking his head, “It kind of seems like a sham.”

“It could be.” I agree with him, shrugging my shoulders, “but I also know there is no way that I’m going to be able to just let this go. If I don’t do anything, I’m surely going to get killed and then there will definitely be nothing I can do about it.”

He just sighs and shakes his head, “Do whatever you have to do, Lincoln, but I think this is just going to be fine. Like I said, no one is crazy enough to do it. I think that you should really know that.”

“I know, but I can’t be certain of that either.” I correct him, “I need to find out how to talk to her though.”

After everything that I have been through, I know that sometimes things just don’t go the way that we need them to. After everything that I have gone through, it has become more and more clear precisely what I have to do in life and I’m okay with that. I know for a fact that I’m going to keep doing the right thing and if I don’t, I can’t be completely certain of where things need to go. I just need her help.

“I’m going to be back.” I tell everyone, “Don’t follow me.”

I need to find her, and I go to the one place I know to find out. Dr. Parks is the best-renowned doctor in all of the packs that I have been to, and I trust him. He has heard of these miracle workers, and I know for a fact that he’s the one who is going to be able to help me. At least I hope so, at least.

“What can I do for you, Alpha?” He asks me, raising an eyebrow when he sees me, “You don’t seem hurt.”

“I’m not.” I assure him, “I need to know if you know where to find the woman with the power of vision.”

His expression shifts ever so slightly, and he doesn’t look so happy with me, “I don’t know if that is a good idea, Lincoln. You know that some like that can’t be trusted. They have worked with mysterious forces that could end up really hurting you…”

I know what he is saying but I don’t deem it possible, “I will be okay, don’t worry about me. I need her help.”

He doesn’t look too sure when he looks at me, but he ends up nodding either way. He pursues his lips, and he looks like he is going to try with excuses when he ends up sighing and just going along with it.

“All I know is her cabin is on the edge of the territory near the mouth of the river.” He explains to me, running his fingers through his hair, “I wouldn’t be so keen on going out there and trying to gain access to her because she’s not very friendly, Lincoln. I don’t know but I have a feeling if she doesn’t like you, she’s going to make sure that you know it as well. I just hope that you know what you are doing.”

I honestly don’t know what I’m doing but I also know that I can’t step away from this. I thank him before taking off, shifting because it is much quicker than in human form. The mouth of the river is definitely a ways away and it’s not going to be the easiest place to get to. I couldn’t be certain of where I’m going from here but what I do know is that I can’t let anything stand in my way. I need answers and I know she is the only person who is going to be able to give it to me. If she doesn’t, I’m probably going to die and then I definitely won’t be able to do anything.

I hate even thinking like that because it has become more and more obvious what is happening. It’s a bit scary to think about but due to everything that has happened, I think I owe it to everyone around me to do the right thing. If I don’t, I could screw everything up.

It doesn’t take me long to reach the cabin and I quickly knock, hoping that I’m not upsetting her by showing up. I wouldn’t have thought much about it but when the door opens, I go incredibly still when I see the beautiful angel in front of me and it’s like my heart just skipped a beat. I don’t know who is in front of me right now, but she is drop-dead gorgeous and everything that I could ever long for in a woman. I just stare at her, letting my eyes scan her up and down as I hope for some kind of miracle that I’m going to be able to dive right into her and make her mine.

A man can dream, right?

She is tall for a woman, maybe five-nine, with fair skin and a very curvy body beneath her robe. She has long, curly red hair that is almost like a fiery mess and piercing blue eyes. She’s so gorgeous, it’s enough to make my heart skip a beat and I just don’t know what I’m going to be able to do about her. I keep thinking that maybe I’m going to do the right thing and I could end up winning something extraordinary but another part of me can’t help but long for more. Oh shit.

“I need your help.” I finally tell her, seeing how her eyes flash as if she knows precisely what I need.

All she does then is take a step back and allow me inside… Okay then.
