Kynedi Epilogue- Nine Months Later
It seemed that it rarely slowed down around here. There was always something happening. Most of the time, it was a happy disturbance, but there were unhappy or even ugly ones as swell. Luckily, the positive outweighs the negative. As long as it stayed that way, we’d count ourselves fortunate.
It was almost unbelievable that my life was real. When I looked back to a year ago, I never expected my life to change so much. Enrolling Cassius in that program and meeting Tiernan had changed our lives so much. All of it was for the better.
I had a man who adored me, and I adored him. I gained a family unlike any other. My son was thriving. And as of three months ago, I became a married woman. Right after the wedding, Tiernan had presented the official paperwork declaring that Cassius Carmichael was now Cassius O’Sheeran. I bawled my eyes out.
Cass was over the moon. It was fortunate for me that I’d had Bram sign away his parental rights when he went to prison. If I hadn’t, we would’ve had to wait seven years for him to be legally declared dead before Tiernan could adopt Cassius. It was a mystery what happened to him, according to the police. Bram got out of prison and simply disappeared. They suspected he either got himself killed or snuck across one of the borders to get out of the country.
In the midst of this, two short months ago, Alistair and Aisling had their sweet daughter, Sheena. She was thriving and a daddy’s girl already. Thinking of Alistair made me recall the shock I got when it was revealed after our wedding that there was such a thing as the Hounds of Justice, who were a group of ethical assassins-for-hire who were formed by the O’Sheerans to remove monsters in the world. When I found out that and the fact that Alistair was the head of it after Darragh, it explained so much.
You’d think the adoption and Sheena were enough, but there was another joyous happening. As agreed, I didn’t renew my birth control back in October. It only took a couple of months of practice for Tiernan to knock me up. When I told him, the man announced it loudly. He was so excited for the baby. I was seven months along, so still a few months to go. I was due at the beginning of September. Cass was thrilled. All he cared to know was if he was getting a brother or sister. We were waiting to be surprised.
Not everything had been happy these past nine months. Heartbreaking stories had been discovered. The family had a huge scare, and Rian had been the hardest hit. Thank God everything worked out in the end, but it was touch and go for a while. Now, he was happily settled with his anamchara . Their story was a crazy one. However, when it was all said and done, we gained so much.
“ Mo chuisle , have I told you today how delectable you look?” a growling voice asked in my ear as arms came around to encircle my expanding belly. Hands rubbed my swollen tummy gently, and teeth nibbled on my neck and ear. I leaned back.
“No, you haven’t.”
“Well, that won’t do. Let me correct that horrendous oversight. Cass is at the house with his grandparents. Why don’t you and I go lay down and see what kind of trouble we can get into?”
I turned in his arms, and right before kissing him, I said, “I thought you’d never ask.”
As I was swept away on the tide of passion, I knew that the future was going to be even better. All we had to do was keep striving for it. Tiernan had taught me that.
