Chapter Fifteen Thor

I knew I was in for it just by the look on Flynn's face. Not to mention I could smell the irritation on him. It was sort of adorable and I found the butterflies in my stomach acting up even though I knew I was in trouble. But I had to stay strong. We couldn't be together. There was just no way to make it work with everything going on and my pack would never accept him. I had to end it as cleanly as I could.

The moment we were in his new suite and the door had shut behind us, he turned on me.

"What the fuck, Thor?" he asked, glaring me down as if he were bigger and stronger than I was. "Did you really think you were just gonna dump me like a piece of garbage and never hear from me again? You can't just buy me off with a new suite and a bunch of fucking comped food."

"I… I thought it would make the separation easier."

"Easier?" He raised an eyebrow. "What about this has to be easier? I don't know shit about you because you won't stop being busy to talk to me. The only time I can get your attention is when I'm naked and even that's apparently not enough for you."

"You don't need to know me," I replied, shaking my head. "It just makes things harder. It's better if we just go our separate ways and forget all about this."

"You want to forget about me?" he scoffed. "Wow. Way to somehow be worse than all the closeted frat guys that liked to use me in college. I thought you were better than that."

" Nobody better fucking touch you," I growled, the words welling up before I could stop myself. "You're mine ."

I lifted a hand to my mouth, taking a step back. The wolf had gotten through. And now Flynn was really fucking confused.

"What the hell is going on, Thor? You don't want me and we can't be together, but now I'm your property? Are you some kind of fucking psycho?"

"No! I… You can do… whatever you want…" Those last few words were extremely hard to force out. "I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me."

"Well, then let's just get down to the point, shall we?" He glared at me with an intensity that made even me shiver. "Why don't you want me?"

"I do! It's just–"

"Just fucking what?"

"We can't…"

"Why?"

I looked away. "My… My family. They don't approve–"

"You're lying to me." Flynn said, getting right up in my face. "If you can't look me in the eye, you're lying." He stared at me with those beautiful and terrifying green eyes of his. "What's really going on? Why are you hiding from me?"

"I…" I faltered. "Why do you care?" I asked, trying to avoid his question. "You don't even know me. Why not just walk away and be done with it?"

Now it was Flynn's turn to be on the defensive. "Because," he sighed. "For some stupid fucking reason that I don't understand, I feel drawn to you. I like how kind you are, I like that you saved me, and to be honest, you're really fucking hot. Like probably the hottest guy I've ever met. Maybe I have a savior complex or something, but I can't seem to push it away." He narrowed his gaze. "So that's my truth. Alright? Now what's your fucking excuse?"

"I… I don't want to lie to you," I replied honestly. "Please don't ask me to."

"Then tell me the truth!"

"I fucking can't! Okay?!" I snapped.

Of course, when I saw him flinch, I immediately felt like the world's biggest piece of shit. I lifted my hands, rubbing my face in embarrassment and irritation.

"Look… If you knew me… the real me, you'd be in danger. And I can't do that to you, alright? I don't want you to get hurt."

He nodded knowingly. "So, you are in some sort of crime ring then. Like the mafia or something."

"What? Why do you think that?"

"Your brother Loki has assassin written all over him. He's probably the guy that pours the cement shoes and smiles the entire time before he tosses his victims into a lake."

I couldn't help the smile that broke out over my face. He wasn't wrong, but he definitely had the wrong idea. Loki was totally that kind of dude and hearing Flynn pick on him was hilarious. At least I wasn't the only one that noticed how dour he was all the time.

"We're not part of the mafia," I chuckled. "And as far as I know, Loki has never killed anyone."

"Then what's the big secret?" Flynn asked, reaching the end of his exasperation. My smile had softened him a bit, but he was still persistent. "What about you could possibly endanger me?"

"I… I can't tell you."

He stared at me for a long moment. "So… you're just going to leave me then with no explanation? I'll have to spend the rest of my life wondering why this perfect man wanted nothing to do with me." He crossed his arms over his chest. "And yes, I'm guilt-tripping the shit out of you right now."

I took a deep breath. The way he was looking at me made my heart hurt. I didn't want to leave, but I had to. Being selfish would only get the both of us in trouble.

"I'll have to be vague," I began.

"What else is new?"

I furrowed my brows at him but kept going. "You and I are different people. Your kind and mine don't go together."

"So… you're racist?" Flynn gave me a once over. "You look white as hell to me and so am I."

"For fuck's sake! I'm not a fucking dickhead like that !"

"Then what is it?!"

"I can't–"

"Tell me!"

"I…" I looked away. "No."

Out of the corner of my eye, I watched as Flynn grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it up and over his head, tossing it to the floor.

"Look at me," he commanded.

I already was. I couldn't help it.

"If skin is what it takes to get you to tell me the truth, so be it," he grumbled. "Now tell me the truth."

"I can't…"

He reached down and unbuttoned his shorts, dropping them to the floor. "Tell me."

"No," I repeated, unable to look away. "I can't."

"Tell me," he said, pulling his underwear slowly down.

"I…"

A thatch of ginger hair appeared just above his cock.

"Thor," he said one last time. "Tell me the truth."

His underwear slipped past his cock, dropping to the floor around his ankles. He shifted his weight, standing there in all his glory, his cock thickening slightly as I stared.

"I… I'm not…" I swallowed hard, unable to look away from this beautiful man standing in front of me. I couldn't lie to my mate anymore. Hell, I could barely stop myself from jumping him at this point. "I'm not… human ."

"What?" he laughed. "Is that really the best you can come up with?" He leaned down to grab his underwear and pull them back up. "Seriously pathetic, Thor."

"I'm not lying!" I took a step forward, grabbing his shoulders and looking him dead in the eye. "I'm not human."

"Fine. I'll bite," he sighed. "If you're not human, what are you?"

"It… It's illegal to share my secret with humans."

"More secrets. Great."

"I want to tell you! I really do! You're not the only one that feels a connection between us, okay? I feel it too! I felt it that night that I found you on the mountain and every day since. It's taken everything I have not to tell you my secrets or pour my heart out to you. I want to know everything about you, and I want you to know everything about me. This bond I feel between us… it's something special, I know it! I feel like if I don't pursue you, I'll die. But if I do pursue you and my pack finds out… we could both be killed. I don't care so much about myself, but I can't let anything happen to you!"

"Whoa, whoa," he said, holding out a hand to stop me. "Cool your jets. What do you mean pack ?"

I took a deep breath, knowing there was no way out of this situation now. I'd given him too much. But if he knew everything, there would be consequences for both of us.

"If I tell you my secret," I said slowly. "You have to promise me you'll never repeat it to anyone. Not friends, family, or even in prayer. You have to take the secret to your grave, and I'll have to keep tabs on you for the rest of your life. If anyone ever found out you knew or you told other people, your life would be forfeit."

"I seriously doubt it's that big of a deal," Flynn scoffed. "So sure. Whatever. Tell me."

"Are you sure?"

"Jesus fucking Christ! Yes! I'm sure!"

With a nod, I took a step back. "I… I'm a werewolf."
