Chapter 31

THIRTY-ONE

Tara

My eyes fly open, tearing me away from the delightful dream I was having, and I touch my stomach. I feel… something . Like the whisper of an answering call of magic. It's a small, soft flutter of magic. I don't move, staying quiet and trying to feel it again.

Wisp appears and lands next to my hand. She curls up comfortably on my stomach, light as a feather. Bright yellow and happy.

I smile at her. I don't see her as often as I used to anymore. Maybe because with my wonderful husbands, I don't need her as much as before, and my little light has trouble to get into. But she shows up at the right time, all the time. Still.

Like now, when my thoughts are spinning and a strange realization is washing over me that I need to share. That I need to talk to someone about. But I don't want to be silly and wake my men over.

"A baby?" I whisper, staring down at my stomach, almost afraid to even suggest it.

"A baby," Wisp answers, like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

I smile so hard my face hurts and cuddle in closer to my men. I have a real family in them. I have acceptance. I have friends. And now I have a baby. They've brought so much to my life.

"We'll have to tell Baldemar that he's going to be a grandpa."

Baldemar, my sweet blacksmith, who packed up his life in the Witch Kingdom and came here with his wife and children. Just to be near me again, and to give his family a chance at a better life. Truly, I'm amazed that Scarlet even thought to write the letter in the first place, and that Baldemar loved me enough to give up everything back home.

I'm just glad he made it here.

He's happy here with the shifters. Happy just helping out a much younger blacksmith, while enjoying the life of a beloved family member to the shifter princess. With his arrival, the final piece of the puzzle in my life seemed to come together.

Until now.

I never would have thought my life would end up like this. I thought I was destined to be unhappy in my coven. Instead, I'm here, surrounded by my four loving husbands, carrying their baby.

It's perfect.

I'm so happy it turned out like this.

Wisp gives me a bright smile. "Finally happy."

"I am," I tell her.

Her smile widens, and then she vanishes. But even though she's gone, the glow she left in my heart remains. I'm lucky to have a good friend like her.

The only thing that will make me happier is telling them. I laugh, unable to help myself, and Drogo opens a grumpy eye. "What is it?"

I grin, saying the only thing that comes to mind. "Just fate."

Because all of this is exactly that. Fate.

"Okay," he responds, pulling me closer and falling back to sleep in an instant.

Except, it's more than okay. It's perfect.
