CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

H is entire body relaxed the moment he pulled Brooklyn into his arms. Ben had been in his head wrecking the moment as he kissed her.

You okay, man?

Yes. Go away. I'm kissing my girl.

Does she know she's your girl?

I'm trying to tell her, asshole. Be quiet.

Need any tips?

Go. Away.

He'd tried to get a glimpse of the security presence as he'd moved in a pile of particles through the lobby but as he'd come up through the parking garage and almost lost his fucking life, Logan thought it was best to just get inside the restroom.

It had been a huge risk. He'd felt the sunlight powerfully on his skin as he'd teleported across the open sky.

Ten minutes earlier and he might not be here.

But Brooklyn was worth it.

His fears had apparently been wrong. Nikolay had not come for her, nor had any of his Bratva soldiers.

Now, they were biding their time until she could open the doors and let the other warriors in. She still had to pose as a person leaving the building after hours and exit through the side door.

Which she ultimately wouldn't.

That's when the team would come in and wreak havoc. AKA kill or eliminate any and all threats until they reached the princesses.

Things were about to get dangerous.

How did you get in?

Teleportation. Which he couldn't tell Brooklyn about. It was possible she would learn about it by the time the night was over, but they could wipe her mind.

He had other plans.

Sitting on the toilet with her, chatting and holding her—which was terribly unromantic—had made Logan realize just how much he wanted Brooklyn in his life.

To keep her safe. To listen to her chatter. To breathe in her scent and relish the hints of tart blueberry that drove his senses wild.

But he could see she didn't believe his words.

In time, he'd show her how much she meant to him and that he was falling in love with her. Every minute he was with her, the feeling got stronger.

Brooklyn belonged to him.

Soon she would know his heart belonged to her.

And that she was his mate.

We're in position, Ben telepathed.

Patting her hips, Logan stood with her in his arms and planted her on the ground.

"Not gonna lie. That's terribly sexy." Brooklyn smiled up at him.

"Yeah?" He grinned.

"Oh, come on. You know that." She slapped his chest, and he caught her hand.

He did.

"I'm over a hundred years old. I know. But you are the first human I've been intimate with. So swoon away, little mouse. It's making me hard and very happy."

"I wasn't swooning." Brooklyn shrugged.

Stubborn.

"Yes. You were." He smacked a kiss on her lips. Then patted her bottom. "Come on, let's get this over with so we can go start our life together."

She tugged on her bottom lip with her teeth. "Logan—"

"We will talk after. Go. I'll keep you safe," he said, cupping her face. Then he opened the door and they stepped out.

The next step in their operation was underway.

Three minutes, he told Ben.

Roger that.

brOOKLYN TIPTOED OUT . Nerves flooded her as the protective bubble he'd been surrounding her with disappeared.

"Walk normally," Logan whispered.

She nodded without turning, knowing he was remaining back a few steps.

Tugging her bag over her head, so it crossed her body, she turned the corner and strode across the large lit lobby as she had many times before after working late.

Brooklyn headed toward the exit and noticed there were now different guards.

Thank god.

Brooklyn felt their gaze on her but kept going.

Her phone rang. She held it to her ear. "Hello?"

"When you open the door, stand to the side so we don't bowl you over," Kurt said.

"Sure thing. See you soon," she replied, then hung up.

Holy fuck.

She reached the door and pushed the red button unlocking the door.

The guard smiled at her as she opened the door. "Night—"

A rush of wind knocked her off her feet and chaos erupted around her.

Before her ass hit the floor she was grabbed and moved through space with a speed that had her stomach lurching.

"Stay down." Logan pressed down on her back.

Gunfire sounded out around her, and she wrapped her arms around her head. Next she heard cries and a bunch of grunts as bodies slammed into marble.

Ouch.

Then there was silence.

Slowly Brooklyn peaked around the reception desk that Logan had plonked her behind and holy hell.

It was a sight she would never forget.

Logan, Brayden, Craig, Marcus, Kurt, and Ben stood in the middle of the lobby, head to toe in black Moretti fatigues looking like the deadliest warriors she had ever seen.

Like something out of an action movie.

On the ground around them lay the bodies of the guards.

Her eyes met Logan's, and she felt herself shiver as goosebumps lined her skin. His expression was dark with determination and purpose.

God, he was beautiful.

"Let's go," Brayden said, striding toward her.

Logan beat him and reached out a hand. "You're up, little mouse. Take us to the lab."
