Epilogue II

"W here's yer head?" Cynden pushed past Knox and pointed at the target. His arrow was lodged on the very edge. "Head in the clouds today cousin?"

Knox grunted trying his best to come up with a reason for his distraction.

Never would he admit thinking of a woman distracted him from target practice. In truth, he'd replayed the same scene every time.

Alexander's wife, Nala, had company. A beauty named Sencha MacTavish. Both women, at that very moment sat under a tree. Next to her was the idiot Hendry, doing his best to get their attention. Obviously it worked, because both Sencha and Nala threw their heads back and laughed.

"She is quite bonnie, but will never be for the likes of ye," Cynden commented, shaking his head. "Sencha is much to sensible to fall for yer ploys."

"I have nae interest in the lass. She is someone a man seeks for marriage." Knox made a show of shuddering. "Nae for me."

Cynden looked back toward where the woman now sat alone, Hendry on his way toward the keep. "That my friend, is true. Do nae forget it." When he turned his attention back to Knox there was a subtle warming in his gaze.

With a huff, Knox turned back toward the target and reached back for a new arrow. He closed his eyes and steadied his breath.

The subtle breeze carried not only the scent of freshly cut flowers, but Sencha's voice.

"That's enough for today," Knox said lowering his bow and stalking away, ignoring Cynden's knowing grin.
