11. Seldarin
Ifrowned as I watched the Princess moaning. She was shifting uneasily on the bed, her face twisted into an expression of pain.
"What's wrong with her?" I demanded, glaring at Krynn. "What's hurting her?"
"I don't know." He looked anxious, which made me fucking worried. "It might be the effects of the Nectar."
"You said it would reveal her true form—not cause her pain!" I exclaimed. "I thought it was just supposed to help her get rid of the human dross."
"It is—the Nectar of Lolth will strip away anything obscuring the Princess's true form," he said. "But as I said before, there might be a spell on her—something that's fighting the Nectar's power and trying to keep her human."
At that moment, the Princess turned towards me and I saw that her eyes were rolled up in her head and her whole body was shaking.
"Whatever it is, we have to help her!"
I put a hand on her arm, which was flung out towards me. The touch of her skin made me gasp. Just moments before when I had placed her in the bed, her temperature had been normal. Now she was burning up.
"She's got a fucking fever!" I told Krynn. He came around to the other side of the bed and put a hand on her forehead. The look on his face turned from anxious to deeply concerned.
"There's definitely a spell on her. It was hidden but now it's coming to the surface. Can't you feel it?"
I shook my head. My magic is powerful but it's a blunt instrument—only useful for battle. Krynn's powers are more intuitive and sensitive—I wasn't surprised he could feel something I couldn't. If he said there was a spell on the Princess, I believed him.
The question was, what in the name of Lolth were we going to do about it?
