Stranger –

It’s me again. Obviously. I know I just wrote a few hours ago and you haven’t even read my first message or had time to respond, but I needed to get something off my chest and didn’t know where to go.

Gods, this is mortifying. Look at me, word vomiting at a talking journal. I hope that you’re not real. In fact, please don’t answer my earlier question about who you are. I don’t want to know. I would die of embarrassment if I ever saw you around town. And right now, I just need a safe place to dump my thoughts.

Something strange happened in Myrtle’s shop. I had a jump scare moment and then felt this rush of…heat, I don’t know. And when I turned around, a small houseplant had turned into a gigantic tree. I’m not sure if it was already enchanted or if it had something to do with, well, me.

It can’t have been me. Right? If I had magical powers, I would’ve known my whole life. This would defy explanation.

You don’t know me at all, but I’m a person who needs explanation. Order. Rule. I thrive on it. This town is turning my head upside down. I need to get out of here.

Natalie –

If you don’t want to know who I am, I won’t tell you. I’m not one to keep secrets, though, so if you change your mind, just tell me.

As for the plant… Well, I understand your perspective, or at least I can try to understand it.

I don’t have much magic myself, but what you described with the heat does sound magical in nature. You may want to seek counsel from someone who would understand witch powers, specifically Myrtle’s, like Velda. She might even be able to help you with your other question: why did Myrtle stay away?

Elderberry Falls is filled with the unexplainable. It’s part of what makes this place so special. Around every corner might be a new, beautiful discovery. Even if it’s outside your comfort zone, I’d try to keep your mind open about it. That’s what will make your time in Elderberry Falls easier.

I agree that it would be a benefit for another great business to open up in your storefront. Are you sure that you’ve picked the right one, though? Spend some time getting to know the other businesses here and make sure it’s a fit. You might not want this responsibility on top of everything else you’re dealing with, but you’ve been entrusted with a piece of Elderberry Falls history. You’ll leave your mark on this town, one way or another.

There’s nothing else magical that this journal can do. But we can keep it an open line of communication. Sometimes, the most magical thing a person can offer another is a little bit of kindness and a listening ear. I’m here for you.
