Chapter 8

D umb human man. He thinks we can just forget about our mate? Then he’s fucking deluded.

My urge to protect and lead the pack is just as strong as Silas’. But the hunt for my mate has been a long and tireless one. Had I known it was the girl from his memories, I would have hunted her sooner.

I had been suppressed for so long inside of Silas, not able to show my true form. That sick man kept us from our true potential.

So, I tore his throat out.

Silas took his money, freed the other beings that were kept prisoner and tested on, and we started our search for a pack.

Nothing besides being an Alpha would do. I could never bow to another wolf. I’d rather be a nomad than dig my paws into the ground and bow to some other motherfucker.

Moon Walker Pack is our pack.

But Violet is our mate.

I’m not as dumb as the man thinking we can’t have both. He’s not as wise as he thinks he is, anyway, considering I’ve been shifting into my form at night and doing as I please. It’s so much quieter and fun when the man is asleep.

He’ll complain when he wakes up, wondering why he’s so tired while I rest in the recess of his mind. We might share a form, share our thoughts, but I am the superior being.

The back of the bakery is locked, but I grab the hinge between my teeth and tug before pulling the door open and stroll down the aisle, my nails clicking against the floor.

I may eat my fair share of pralines before grabbing the best looking cupcake that’s stored in a plastic container.

My teeth dig into the plastic, despite my efforts to be gentle, but it will have to do.

I have a mate to court, and if the man isn’t going to do it, then I need to take charge.

Silas can’t recall his memories as I can. As soon as I shifted and was released I spent weeks searching through his most memorable moments. Violet, Jonas, and his wolf, Hyde, were always at the center of his happiest moments.

I remember the date well. October eleventh. It’s our mate’s birthday, and she needs to know that we’re thinking of her. If Silas was being more cooperative, we could have gotten her something nice, but I feel as though the little witch may enjoy my small offering.

I’m deep in the witches territory, it’s almost like their magic permeates the air. My instincts direct me to a cottage covered in Halloween decorations, but I quickly realize her scent isn’t as deep here. She frequents this place, but it’s not her home.

With my nose in the air, I inhale and head north.

Don’t eat the cupcake, I remind myself. I should have eaten the bread pudding while I was at the bakery. Maybe after I drop this off, I can swing back around.

Tiny solar lights. No, there has to be magic at play with the way the trees cover the walking path, as a massive purple home sits before me. Vines are wrapped around the massive pillars and pumpkins are assorted on the porch.

This. This is my mate’s home.

I walk up the stairs and place the container on the mat, using my paw to adjust the plastic as best as I can.

When she awakes tomorrow for her birthday, she’ll know her mate is thinking of her. I’ll convince Silas to apologize and we’ll get our mate back.

It will be simple.
