Second Chance Rescue
There’s a challenge of writing romance that romance authors often discuss at conferences after the fans have gone to bed and the last call has sounded.
You can’t have true love twice.
Yep, once a hero or heroine finds true love, it must be True Love and a Happy Ever After. It’s what I found so annoying about the second Bridget Jones book. She found her true love and, as a reader, I got my happy ever after…and then the author blew it up in the second book.
If Mark Henderson or Emily Beale were killed in the service in my The Night Stalkers series, I could never write a second romance for either one. The Bridget Jones character does it by being naive and not the brightest. I found her incredibly annoying as I’m something of a romance purist.
However, in the character of Stella, I saw a chance to investigate what a true second romance might really look like. So, here’s her first step down the path to finding a second happy ever after.
