74. Chapter 74
Chapter seventy-four
A s pieces of the puzzle fell into place, Evan couldn't help but be thrown back in time. Back to the moment everything good in his life ended.
Todays the day, he thought. Today the witches spell would be cast and the new realm would be created. Today, he would finally confess his feelings for Morana. She'd welcome him with open arms and they'd stay in the human realm together. Leaving one of the other council members to take his place as crown regent. Morana had offered him the position yesterday and while he'd been honored, it wasn't the one he wanted.
Evan made his way down the hall, towards Moranas room. He knew the way by heart at this point. Finally coming to a stop outside her room, Evan found it completely silent. Not unusual, she most likely had lit a silencing candle, useful if this went how he wanted.
Taking out the key Morana didn't know he had, Evan unlocked the door. Pushing it open, he instantly knew that the speech he had planned would be going to waste.
Lying on her back, Morana had her legs spread wide with the devil himself between them. Her head was thrown back in pleasure as Robert thrust into her.
It only took a second for Morana to notice him. Evan took in the panicked look on her face as she jumped up and pushed Robert off of her. Confused, Robert turned to look, finding Evan there in the doorway.
Morana wrapped herself in a sheet and climbed off the bed. Evan snarled as she neared him, he could smell the evidence of her affair all over her.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" She shouted
"Get out!" Robert yelled from behind her but Evan would not be intimidated by rats like him. Standing his ground Evan responded,
"What am I doing, what do you think you're doing? Allowing him between your legs, you have better taste than that. What about us!"
"What about us Evan? There is no us." Evan could see she was trying to soften her words but it still didn't matter. The woman standing before him was a traitorous whore.
"You bitch!" He snarled. Reaching out to grab her, he wrapped his hands around her neck and twisted to shove her against the wall. Morana clawed at his hands, attempting to shove him off. Robert grabbed Evan from behind, ripping him from her and throwing him down on the ground.
Robert hit Evan over and over again before Morana finally pulled him off. Evan spat blood on the floor before rising. Very slowly he looked the two of them over, both covered with a now bloody sheet and looking like they'd been put through a tornado.
"You'll pay for your actions!" Evan spat before exiting through the open doorway. He could hear Morana beginning to cry as well as Roberts comforting words.
Once upon a time he'd considered Morana to be the love of his life and long before that, Robert had been his best friend. Not that Morana had known that of course. Robert had cast him aside as soon as he'd taken his throne.
He'd make them pay, he'd make them both pay.
Evan absently thought about the night after everything in his world had come crashing down. He wondered, if he hadn't made a deal that stripped so much from him, would he have been able to move on from that night, from her? Evan didn't think so, even in the little pieces left of his black heart he knew he'd never have been able to move on from Morana. Even if he hadn't sold his soul to the devil in attempt to rid himself of the pain, Morana would have lived inside his head for as long as his soul was still in this realm.
Now that he was nothing more than a vessel for others to use as they pleased, Evan knew there was no changing what was coming. He hadn't had complete control over his actions in centuries and he wondered, if he did, if Evan was able to get himself away from his mental captors, would he even bother to try to change what was coming? Or would he just let the cards fall as they may?
Casting the useless thoughts from his head, Evan dragged himself back to the present. There was no getting out of that deal he'd made so long ago and he knew it .
The sounds of the loud tavern below him rose up to greet Evans' ears. Just because he was in hiding didn't mean he couldn't indulge in some of life's luxuries. Taking a large drink of some of the worst whiskey he'd ever had, Evan thought back on how much he had accomplished since he'd found Robert and Morana in bed together. The death of Robert being one of his prouder moments and one of the only times he'd felt alive in over a century.
Evan only had a few more tasks to complete before he could finally reach his goals and take what the voices in his head told him were his. The death of that little brat being high up on that list. Evan couldn't look at Haven without seeing her mother and unfortunately, her father. She was a perfect mix of the two.
Soon, he'd be able to take her down, take the kingdom for himself and then the rest of the realm. After that, he'd take the one thing he wanted most, Morana. He'd show her how weak Roberts daughter was, how easily she crumbled under Evans efforts. Then together they'd release horrors never before seen and take back what was never supposed to be given up in the first place, the human realm.
