Chapter 6
Will
I should have known this wasn’t going to end well when Nick got home. I almost told Ian we should wrap this up and head to bed before he got back. Too late now.
“Nick,” I groan as I move to stand from the couch.
“Don’t fucking ‘Nick’ me,” he growls, anger rising in his voice. “What the fuck is this? You're all sitting around, watching a movie like some big happy pack?”
“What else are we going to do?” I ask. “Sit around and do nothing? There's a TV and movies, why not fill our time with something entertaining?”
“She’s supposed to be locked upstairs.” He slams the door shut and shrugs off his jacket.
“For what?” Nova asks. I groan at the tone she uses. This isn’t going to go over well. “So I can sit up there and twiddle my thumbs?”
Nick’s lip pulls back. “I should have left the tape on your damn mouth.”
“Or maybe you could put some on yours?” She raises a brow, grabbing a handful of popcorn from the bowl and eating it, while staring into his eyes. Oh, Nova, you're just adding fuel to the fire.
I should say something. I should stop her. But I don’t. If she wants to poke the bear, she’s going to have to deal with the consequences and learn that Nick is not the one to fuck with. Woman or not. Omega or not.
A growl rumbles in his chest as he glares at her. He looks seconds away from strangling her. This is not good.
“Watch your fucking mouth, Omega,” he snaps as he takes a step forward.
“Nick.” I get up, and put a hand on his chest. “Don’t. It’s not worth it. She didn’t do anything.”
His eyes dart over to our little brother who’s sitting next to Nova. I look down and groan when I see his hand on her thigh... like he’s claiming possession of her. F uck.
“What the hell, Ian?” Nick spits.
“She’s my scent match, Nick,” Ian declares. “You can’t expect me not to want her.”
“Want her, sure. My cock would love to be buried inside her sweet little cunt too. But to sit next to her, be all buddy-buddy with her? You do know we’re not keeping her, right?”
Nova huffs, putting the bowl of popcorn on the table. “Stop acting like I’m not right here!” she snaps. “Keep me? I’m not a fucking dog, you know. No one’s keeping me, because I don’t belong to anyone. Also, your dick isn’t coming anywhere near me. So dream on with that one.”
Nick’s lips curve into a cruel smile as he pushes me to the side and walks the few steps it takes to get to Nova. Unease flickers through me as he towers over and grins down at her.
He’s acting like he hates her, but we can all smell the want in the air. It’s coming off us in waves at this point. Nova smells so damn tempting. It’s taken everything I have in me to keep my hands to myself all night.
I want her. I hate that I want her. But I’m not going to touch her. Because Nick is right. She’s not ours. At least not right now. It’s going to fuck with our whole plan, which we had set in place for years now. We want to be out from under our father’s thumb. If he finds out we have an Omega, he’s going to try to pull us back in for sure.
No. We need to find a way to get her out of our lives. When we leave here, she’s not coming with us.
I fucking hate the nauseous feeling that hits me just thinking of it.
“That's where you're wrong, Little Joyrider.” He laughs deeply. “We’re your scent matches. Meaning you can’t live without us. But you see, we can easily live without you. Sure, it might make us a little angry to be apart from you, but being knot deep in a few Omegas will make that feeling go away. Once your next heat hits, you’ll need to put yourself in a fucking coma if you don’t want to die. Isn’t it lovely how biology works?”
Her eyes flash with anger and hurt. Sometimes the shit Nick says is a little bit too much. We don’t disrespect women. Hell, we love women. We’ve been dreaming about having an Omega once we get our lives together.
But Nick isn’t taking this very well. He’s pissed off and angry, because not only did this job go sideways, we’re stuck in this house unable to get the product out of the basement and safely where it needs to be. Add in the fact that we found our scent match when none of us were looking, and it’s causing him to spiral a bit.
“Fuck you,” she curses, nostrils flaring. If looks could kill, he would be six-feet-under.
“Nah, Little Joyrider,” he chuckles. “I’d much rather be fucking you.” He reaches up and brushes some of her wild, dirty-blonde curls out of her face. Her chest heaves with each breath she takes. “If you're a good girl and ask nicely, maybe I’ll gift you the pleasure of my cock.”
Yup. I just know that’s not going to go over well with Nova. She’s unlike any Omega we’ve met before. She’s sassy, strong willed, has a mouth with no filter, and a ‘gives no fucks’ kind of attitude. I hate to admit that her bitterness is a bit of a turn on. Fuck it, everything about her is a turn on.
The image of her naked in the bathroom earlier will forever be seared in my mind.
I have plans of wrapping one hand around my dick and the other around my knot as I fuck my hand to that image.
She bats Nick’s hand away, curling her lip back in a snarl. “I’d rather eat shards of glass than touch your dick.”
Nick’s hand shoots out, wrapping around her neck. He yanks her to her feet, pulling her to him and getting in her face. I take a step forward, wariness filling me as she gasps, eyes widening in fear.
“Let me make things fucking clear,” he says. His voice is deep, low, and dangerous as he bends down, getting in her face until they’re nose to nose. “Just in case I didn’t make myself clear before. I am not a nice person, Omega. Don’t fucking push me. If you do, don’t blame me for the things that will happen. I will not take any disrespect from you, do you fucking understand me?”
“What are you going to do?” She gasps as he tightens his grip. “Kill me?”
A sinister chuckle sounds around us, and I pray Nova stops pushing him. He’s only going to take so much before he snaps. And I don’t want to get in the middle of this.
A part of me screams to defend my Omega, but then there’s another part that tells me that she’s not mine. Even if the universe sent her to us. She’s an inconvenience. That‘s it.
At least that's what I keep on telling myself.
“Think of it this way, Nova. We’re in the middle of nowhere. No one knows we’re here. If I killed you, no one would miss you. Your mom is fucking your ex. They don’t care about you. If you died, no one would come looking.”
Fucking hell, man. That was a low blow.
“Nick!” Ian barks. “That's enough.”
Nova’s eyes fill with tears, her lower lip quivering. I feel bad for her. Damn it.
“Nick, back off,” I say, unable to hold back anymore. “She didn’t ask to be here anymore than we did.”
He lets go of her throat and she stumbles back a few steps. “I’m going to bed,” Nova whispers, stepping past us and running up stairs.
“What the fuck is your problem!” Ian gets in Nick’s face. “That's not how you're supposed to treat your Omega!”
“She’s not my Omega,” Nick snarls.
“She is!” Ian shouts back. “And not just any Omega. Our scent match. This might not be what we wanted at this very point in our life. And yes, it might fuck up our plans, but that’s life. Unexpected things happen. But she’s ours, whether you like it or not. And I don't plan to leave here without her after this is all done. I will not abandon her. That’s not what Alphas fucking do to their Omegas. We’re supposed to love her, treat her like a fucking queen. And you treat her like she’s nothing more than a common whore. Fuck you, Nick. You might not be able to see the gift we were given, but I do. And I’m not letting you take her from me.”
He shoulders past Nick and storms up the stairs.
“What the fuck is wrong with him?” Nick growls, running a hand through his wet hair. “Has he lost the plot? The deal was to bring her back after we get rid of our shipment. Now he’s gone and fallen for the damn Omega.”
“Nick, you’re acting like it’s just easy to shut off the hormones and biological urges Alphas have for Omegas. You damn well know it’s not. And with a scent match Omega, it’s a whole other ballgame. Do you know how hard it’s been to keep my hands to myself? Hardest fucking thing I’ve had to do in my entire life, especially when all I want to do is taste her slick and knot her until we both passed out.”
Nick shakes his head, growling an annoyed rumble in his chest as he heads for the kitchen. “This is why we avoided Omegas. Why we only fucked with Betas. Scent matches were never in the plan, Will.”
“I know the last thing we needed was to be stuck here with an Omega. But did you forget the fact it was you who brought her here. How else did you expect this to go? Reality is, we can’t leave her locked up there. We have no real reason to.”
“Easy. Just lock her in and let her out to piss,” Nick grumbles, going over to the fridge and grabbing a beer.
I sigh heavily. “No, Nick. She didn’t do anything to deserve being locked up like that. I know you're a raging asshole, but you’re not that mean.”
“I’ve killed men with my bare hands, Will,” he scoffs. “Don’t tell me I’m some fucking nice guy.
“You know what I mean. Sure, you’re not this big cuddly bear when it comes to women, but you would never hurt them.”
“You wanna bet?” Nick snarls. “I wanted to choke her, Will. I want to have her on her fucking knees and begging me for mercy.”
I raise a brow. “You mean your dick. You're a cruel man in the bedroom, we all know it. But when it comes down to it, you would never actually hurt a woman. Let alone beat or kill one.”
He doesn’t say anything, glaring at me, because he knows I’m right. Nick likes rough sex. Girls at the MC compound would be all over him, knowing the type of treatment they would get from him. Everyone loves a bad boy.
It’s not who he is all the time. One time, one of the members backhanded their old lady and Nick saw. The beating that man ended up with later that night had him in the hospital for days.
He’s only acting this way with Nova because he hates himself for how much he wants her.
“The last fucking thing we need to deal with is taking care of an Omega,” Nick repeats. “I should have just left her on the side of the fucking road. Now, snow is coming down heavily and we’re going to be snowed in with her for God knows how long. What if her heat hits? There’s no way I’d be able to keep my hands off her.”
“Then don’t.” I shrug. “If she wants us to help her through her heat, then we do it. It’s just sex. We love sex.” I grin.
He just glares at me. “We’ve never helped an Omega through their heat.”
“Can’t be that hard, can it? Just fuck her brains out. Easy. Getting to cum all we want? Even easier. But let’s face it, the fact is, we’re going to have to learn to co-exist somehow. She’s not going anywhere.”
“No, she’s not because the roads are probably completely snowed in by now. It’s why it took me so long to come back. The snow was coming down hard. I already talked to our guy about the shipment. They said they wouldn’t come and get it. We attracted too much unwanted attention, and they’re not stepping a foot anywhere near this town. So we need to bring it to them. But we fucking can’t, because of the massive snow storm that‘s hitting us. After I got off the phone with him, I went shopping for everything we’ll need to survive for a month.”
Nick slams his beer bottle down on the counter top, leaning over the sink to look out at the darkening sky. “We don’t know how long we’re going to be here and using the generator gas to run a fucking movie was stupid.”
“About that.” I chuckle. “I got the power on. Guess they never shut off the connection here, just the breaker.”
His eyes flick over to mine. “So we have power?”
“Yup.”
“Thank fuck.” He sighs. “Still got gas for it anyways. We can use it if the power goes out.”
“Worst comes to worst, we can always use the fireplace and wood stove.”
He nods his head. “Come help me bring everything in.”
Once we bring everything from the truck into the house and put it away, Nick disappears down to the basement.
Being over with the day, I head upstairs for a shower. Once I’m changed into sleep clothes, I get ready to go to bed, but pause as I lift the blanket up.
There’s an overwhelming urge for me to go check on her, to make sure she’s okay, even if I know Ian is in there with her.
“Fucking hell,” I groan, the Alpha in me, pounding on my chest with the need to protect and provide. Damn biology.
Sighing heavily, I drop the blanket and walk barefoot over to the room Nova’s staying in. The door is shut, making a small creaking sound as I open it.
“Who is it?” Ian’s voice is a whisper.
“Just me.”
He sighs. “Good. I’d fucking shoot Nick right now if it was him.”
I step inside, the light from the hallway giving just enough light to see him laying in the bed, Nova curled up on his chest.
“Is she okay?”
“Yeah. She was pretty pissed, raged for an hour before passing out in my arms.” I see the small smile that tilts his lips as he looks down at the Omega in his arms.
“You like her, don’t you?”
“Fuck yeah, I do,” he says. “I can’t explain it, but the idea of not having her in my life feels like I’m being suffocated. I want to get to know everything about her. To spoil her, give her the world. To show her that just because the people in her life failed her doesn’t mean I will. She was given to us for a reason, Will. I’m not just going to let her go.”
“What if Nick doesn’t want her.”
“Do you?”
I don’t say anything. Because I’m not sure. Yes, I want her, but I also don’t because this wasn’t in the plan. This is too much of a change. This sends our plans way off course.
I need out from under my father’s thumb. I don’t want to take his place in the family, neither does Nick, and Ian sure as hell doesn’t.
An Omega is someone else to worry about, to factor into every job, our lifestyle. It’s a distraction Nick doesn’t want.
“Would you leave the pack if we chose not to take her with us?”
“Yes,” he replies without hesitation. I’m not surprised. Ian is the softest one of us all. Don’t get me wrong, he can handle his own, knows the business well, and has killed his fair share of men.
But he’s also a kind soul, a hopeless romantic, and has been dreaming of an Omega of his own for years now. I should have known the moment we found out Nova was our scent match, he wasn’t going to let her go.
I nod, my eyes fixating on Nova. She’s clinging to Ian, a small whimper leaving her parted lips. My body urges me to check on her, to make sure she’s okay.
But Ian holds her closer, causing a little content sigh to leave her lips, and it sparks jealousy within me.
“We’re stuck here for a while. Nick said our guy isn’t coming for the shipment. We need to bring it to him. Too many eyes.”
“I expected as much.”
“But we have food and everything else we’re going to need,” I tell him.
“Did he get Nova the suppressants and scent blocking pads? I tried to call him, but he didn’t pick up. It said the text went through, though.”
“I didn’t see any when I was unloading things. I’ll ask him about it tomorrow. But I do have her bag. It’s in the living room.”
“I’m sure she would be happy to have it. Although I do like her in my clothes.” He chuckles. “Makes her feel like she’s mine.”
He’s happy. He’s already head over heels for the Omega. Nick isn’t going to be happy with this outcome.
But for now, I guess we just take it day by day, learn to live with one another and deal with what hits us as it comes. The rest can wait until it’s time to deal with it.
“I’m heading to bed. Are you staying here?”
“Yeah. I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
As I shut the door and head back to my room, I get the same feeling—like I’d rather be back in that room, in Nova’s bed with her.
I’m going to have to avoid her as much as I can, let Ian be the one to deal with her. If not, I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to be able to deny this bond between us.
I’m fucking screwed.
