Chapter 40
CHAPTER FORTY
Avery was pacing. He’d been pacing for the past two days. He started when they got home and Ozen went to his office to read his book. Ozen had suggested he go to the library as a distraction, but it hadn’t lasted very long. When Ozen took a break for dinner each night, Avery kept eyeing him for any clue on Ozen’s opinion of the novel, but he had promised he wouldn’t say anything until he was finished. Now, as it got closer to bedtime, Ozen wasn’t sure Avery could take the suspense much longer.
It was distracting, but not distracting enough to pull Ozen out of the story. Avery was a talented writer, and he knew exactly when the story needed comedic relief and when it wasn’t appropriate. Taron wasn’t lying about the sex scenes either. Ozen spent thousands of years partaking in all kinds of sex, and still Avery’s scenes left him hot under the collar. Masking his reaction to not give away his opinions on the novel was difficult, especially when sharing a bed with his mate. Sylix was right that Ozen no longer needed to feed daily now that they were fully mated, but he had to keep lying to Avery and saying he was hungry to have an excuse to maul him after reading a few of those scenes.
He finished what was available of the story and faced a heavy amount of disappointment that he didn’t get to know the story’s conclusion yet. He understood better why Taron was getting so demanding about it. Ozen was curious, too.
When he closed his laptop, Avery’s pacing stalled, and he stared uneasily at him through the open door.
“Come here, firefly.”
The combination of eagerness and anxiety made Avery’s footsteps hurried. He didn’t hesitate to round the desk, crawling into Ozen’s lap when he opened his arms for him.
“You hate it, right? That’s why you’re cuddling me. To soften the blow. I knew it. Taron was just being nice. I–”
Ozen silenced him with a fierce kiss, pouring every ounce of sexual frustration into it until Avery was dazed enough to stall his panic. Only once he was certain Avery would listen did Ozen pull away.
“I loved it, firefly. You have true talent.”
Avery sucked in a sharp breath, the dazed look vanishing in an instant as his gaze snapped to Ozen’s. “Wait. Really?”
Ozen dipped his chin. “Really. It was intriguing. I found I didn’t want to put it down. Taron didn’t lie to you. You could make this your career.”
Avery might not have fully trusted Taron not to lie to him, but he knew Ozen would tell him the truth. He would never lie to his mate, especially not with something as important as this. Ozen liked the idea of keeping Avery close by and having him work on his book instead of leaving for a temp job, but he wouldn’t give Avery false hope if he thought his writing wasn’t ready.
Avery still looked uncertain, but Ozen figured it’d take more than a single conversation to convince him. In the meantime, he had something more pressing to discuss. He ran his hand along Avery’s thigh before gripping his ass.
“I’ve been lying to you.”
Avery’s smile fell, and he looked worried. “You didn’t like it?”
“Not about that. I’ve been making excuses about needing to feed to get you into bed. Those scenes you wrote were… tantalizing.”
A slow grin spread across Avery’s face, making Ozen’s cock swell. He did enjoy his mate’s enthusiasm in the bedroom.
“Really? I tempted the great Ozen Hawksley? Did you recognize any of it?”
Ozen hummed, readjusting Avery in his lap until they were chest to chest with Avery straddling him. It brought their cocks together, teasing the both of them with seductive friction.
“A few scenes seemed familiar. You realize if you do make this your career, I can help you research those scenes beforehand.”
Avery nibbled on his bottom lip, drawing Ozen’s focus to his mouth. Those scenes explained the day in the office when Ozen had come back to Avery’s desire soaking the air. He’d been working on his novel during his break. Ozen was beyond curious about which scene he’d been working on at the time.
“I didn't think of that,” Avery murmured.
“Perhaps you need a demonstration, then. Should we recreate one of your scenes?”
Ozen felt Avery’s cock twitch and desire filled the air. It made Ozen shudder, but he felt no need to feed from it. He wanted to enjoy the moment with his mate without distraction.
“Which one?”
“Well… we do have a desk right here…” Ozen suggested with a purr. Avery’s grin was gone now, replaced with heated lust, his eyes locked on Ozen’s mouth. The scene didn’t start with kissing, but Ozen wasn’t going to deny himself the pleasure of Avery’s mouth.
Cupping the side of his neck, he drew Avery closer, nipping at his lip to demand entrance. Avery gave it with a gasp, moaning as he sank into the kiss. They started slow, savoring each other, but when Avery started to fidget and whine, Ozen decided to get on with his plan. He helped Avery stand, spinning him around to face the desk.
“Pants off and bend over.”
When he’d first started reading that scene, he was surprised how similar it was to their own encounter, but it thrilled him to no end that Avery liked it enough to include it in his novel. He would recreate it over and over again if Avery asked him to. Avery trembled as he bent over the desk, spreading his legs a little to give Ozen room.
“The lead character doesn’t finish until his lover is buried inside him. Do you think you can hold out?”
“No,” Avery answered honestly. “But I’ll do my best.”
And Ozen would do his best to make him come before he lost the race with his desire to sink into his mate. They would see who could hold out the longest.
One of Avery’s favorite things about living with Ozen was that he could be as loud as he wanted. Ozen explained the wards on the building, including the one that prevented people from eavesdropping. Avery didn’t think it was possible to stay quiet while Ozen was torturing him like this.
That wicked tongue was twisting inside him, paying special attention to his prostate. Avery was holding on to his release by a thread, babbling nonsense as he clutched the edge of the desk. He wanted so badly to hold out until Ozen was inside him, but it was almost impossible to stop the orgasm that was barreling down on him like a freight train.
“Please! Please! Ozen!”
Ozen ripped himself away without warning, leaving Avery trembling against the desk. He choked on a sob, his cock throbbing and dripping precum all over the floor. He heard Ozen moving, and he took a few precious seconds of reprieve to draw in a deep breath. He was considering rewriting this scene in his book. There was no way his character could hold out that long without losing his mind. Avery felt close to losing his, especially when Ozen’s fingers dipped inside him, making sure he was stretched and ready.
“Are you ready for me, firefly?”
“Yes. Please,” Avery begged. He needed relief.
Ozen didn’t make him wait, and the familiar stretch made Avery’s toes curl. He moaned, rocking his hips when Ozen wouldn’t move fast enough. It made Ozen growl, and he punished Avery with a rougher thrust that had stars bursting behind his eyes.
“A-Again! Please!”
Ozen didn’t reply, aside from giving Avery what he asked for. He drove into Avery’s ass, burying his length entirely, barely pausing to allow him to adjust before pulling out to the tip and slamming back in. Avery cried out, staring blindly ahead as bolts of pleasure slammed into him with every thrust.
“You’re perfect. My firefly. My mate. There’s nothing better than being inside you. I– Ah!”
Avery clenched in response to Ozen’s words, clamping down on Ozen’s cock. It made his hips stutter and Ozen’s fingers dug into the skin of his ass, his growl of pleasure making the hair stand up on the back of Avery’s neck. Avery wasn’t sure how long he would last, but the rougher Ozen got, the louder he got, and Ozen seemed determined to get him to shatter the windows.
“Ozen!”
Ozen’s voice came out in a husky growl, and goosebumps spread along Avery’s neck. “That’s it, firefly. Come for me. Let me hear how much you like it.”
“I love it. I love you! I–” Avery sucked in a sharp breath when Ozen’s fangs sank into his neck, time freezing for a moment as a massive tidal wave of pleasure tore through Avery’s system. He wailed, his back arching from the force of his release, and he took Ozen right along with him. The incubus released his neck to roar his pleasure, thrusting twice more before he dropped back into his chair, dragging Avery with him.
They were covered in sweat, both fighting for breath, with Ozen’s cock still inside him. Avery was always reluctant to end the contact, and Ozen never rushed. They savored the closeness. Sometimes it led to another round, but this time Avery was too wiped out.
“That was… amazing.”
“Good enough for your book?” Ozen queried with a smirk.
Avery dropped his head back against Ozen’s shoulder and shook it once, his breathing still heavy like he’d run a marathon. “I’m going to have to rewrite it. It’s so much better than I described.”
Ozen chuckled, wrapping his arms tighter around Avery’s body. Avery craved this whenever they were intimate. He needed Ozen to keep him together when it felt like he came so hard that he exploded into a million tiny pieces. He told Ozen how out of sorts he felt when he’d left right after that intense middle of the night visit. Ozen apologized profusely and since then refused to let Avery go until he was sure Avery felt okay again.
“I know you don’t have much faith in the idea, but I think you should give your writing a real chance,” Ozen murmured. “You can always go back to temping if it doesn’t work out, but unless you give it your all, you’ll never truly know if it could be a success.”
“Do you really think I could do it?” Avery asked, his voice trembling with barely contained hope. He’d wanted to publish his book for so long, but he dragged his feet on it. He knew how the book would end, but he avoided actually writing the ending because then he’d have no more excuses for not trying to publish it. If he took extra jobs and worked until he was too tired to function, then he could pretend he didn’t have the time to finish it and keep lying to himself that he’d do it one day.
“I do, firefly. You have a way with words. I want you to achieve your dreams.”
“How much of you is saying that so I’ll be with you throughout the day?” It was as much a deflection as it was a tease, but Ozen didn’t let him get away with changing the subject.
“I do want you close. It’s difficult for me when you aren’t by my side. But if your dream was to continue temping, I wouldn’t stand in your way. I want you to do what makes you happy, and I think writing truly makes you happy.”
It did. It was Avery’s favorite time of day when he was working on his writing. At least… It was before he met Ozen. And being apart for work wasn’t easy on him, either. He felt anxious when they were apart for too long.
“I’m scared…” Avery admitted.
“You have nothing to be afraid of. I’ll be with you every step of the way. Always.”
Trusting Ozen had been the smartest decision Avery had ever made. He wouldn’t start doubting him now.
