He followed her around the hospital almost all day. Doug had waited two days to see her, to be with her. Alvaro was coddling her a bit—everyone wanted to take care of her; she was the kind of woman people loved to fuss over. She was most likely really sore—Doug had taken a peek at her file when he had an opportunity—but she should be fine within a week or so.
If he had been able to get to the monster who had dared touch her, Doug would have. Just seeing her hurting stung. She worked the intake desk, on light duty. It was obvious she was sore tonight.
That bastard Fields was right there, hovering over her. Like he had the right. Because she had given him that right. She had.
Doug wasn't a fool.
He was angry, though. Very, very angry.
That anger just continued to build.
It just doubled when he opened the periodical he was supposed to be featured in. One affiliated with one of the top five teaching universities in the country—Finley Creek University. He'd worked incredibly hard on that article. That publication had career value. Merit. But right there was an article on nearly the same subject. Written by none other than Chad Fields.
Fields was taking everything from him. Everything.
Would the man ever stop?
