Epilogue
Two days later
Alexander Ross stood on the deck of one of the bìrlinns and watched the waves lapping gently against the side. The wind blew his raven black hair across his face, as he absently pushed it back.
Life was progressing much too quickly for his liking. Once back on Skye, there would be much to deal with. And though he was happy for his brother, what he told Gavin was true. If another battle came to be, his hawk-like vision would be sorely missed.
All of his brothers were now married and of his three brothers only Cynden remained at home. Both Munro and Gavin had married and taken over their wives' lands.
A choice he wouldn't have. Alex didn't mind, his holdings were vast and with Cynden and Knox living with him, he could handle things.
As laird of the vast Ross lands on Skye, if he were ever to marry, which he doubted would be anytime soon, his wife would be moving to live with him.
Alexander closed his eyes trying to envision who he'd marry. If he were ever to do so, which was doubtful.
His marriage would not be for love, but for the benefit of the clan. Which suited him fine. The last thing he needed was to act like a besotted fool over some pretty lass. Being in love could prove dangerous for a laird.
As Laird, his primary focus would have to always be on the wellbeing of the clan's people.
At the moment, his most important task awaited.
He would hunt down whoever the band of attackers were, and they would be dealt with. Then he would begin the work of ensuring his people were ready and prepared for winter.
"Land!" someone called out as the shore of Skye came into view. Alex let out a long breath.
Home.
