Chapter 20

Ineeded five minutes away from everyone. I usually ran when I was upset instead of crying, but in this case, I really just needed to cry. After I got my fire under control, I changed back and sat under a tree to just let it all out.

I thought I was just fetching a princess so Belisarus could give her some message and he would answer my questions. He couldn't predict exactly what would happen when I got to Nestran, but I was betting he had a pretty good idea. He probably knew that Senso thing was going to happen to me at any time. What the fuck was he going to do if it happened back home?

An eagle landed in front of me and transformed. It was Volaris. If they were going to send someone to bring me back, they should have sent Sono. Sono could see I was getting pissed off and was trying to get them to stop, too. Plus, I liked mating. I wouldn't mind doing it again. I wanted to get to know Sono first because he'd really been amazing and kind.

"I'm sorry we upset you. I meant to tell you who you were, but the Tall Man showed up."

"Excuse me? Don't put all of that on Leodos because he's human. You fucked up, too. Even if you don't know me, you know your son. He was trying to stop you, too. You should have just sent Sono because I like him better than all of you right now," I snapped, wiping my eyes.

Volaris chuckled, and I swore to shit, if he was laughing at me, I was going to blast him on his arse with a little heat again.

"I'm not making fun of you. Most people don't tell me when I've been an idiot because I'm a king. It's refreshing. So, I'm going to be honest with you. Sono is a good kid. So are you. Get to know him, but don't get too attached just yet. The Theran and Tark have princes your age. They'll understand it was your Senso, but not that you decided to marry Sono before you even met them. It would cause infighting among the tribes, and we need to be worried about the humans."

I scoffed.

"Belisarus clearly kept a lot of shit from me, but one thing he stressed was that the tribes were all about purity. You keep your marriages within your tribe. He never gave me any specifics, but he said you all lost your fucking mind just because people fell in love, and you didn't think they should. I'm not pure anything. I'm some kind of fucked up mutt. I'm never getting married."

"Maybe when you find out who you are, you'll understand."

"I'm nobody! I'm guessing my parents either broke your stupid rules about mixing and Belisarus found me before you could kill me, too, or there's some village you don't know about where everyone is breaking those idiotic laws."

"Why don't you come back with me? I think everyone has questions about you. I can answer them all at once without delaying our trip back to Idric to confront that old fool. I want to give you all the information you need before you get there.

"I never met Belisarus, but my father did. From what I've been told, he's more intelligent than anyone has any right to be. Belisarus probably knows more about every single being living on Nestran and Idric than anyone else alive. He knew about you. We know about you. It's time you got those answers, too. Belisarus probably knows things even I don't, so we all need to be on the same page before we get on a boat and go somewhere three of us will be powerless."

I knew why Esylle was going to Idric. Belisarus's secrets must be pretty serious if the Farkhi king and prince were also coming with us.
